A Political Thread pt. 2

I was talking to friends about how ill advised that series is even from a financial/creative perspective. This was part a greater discussion about problematic artists/art especially when attached to larger projects. It basically boiled down to, how much do they financially gain and how much of the art is thier vision.

(It should be noted that everyone there had made the decision to no longer put money in JKRs pockets)

Is Harry Potter problematic? Will it do as poorly as Disneys star wars or Rings of power?

Harry Potter will absolutely smash it would be my guess. Peope don't give a **** about Rowling’s views on trans people. Your average person, myself included, is good at separating the art from the artist. I guess we all have our red lines, though. I can't see the viewing numbers being affected however.

I think the way everyone is attacking Reform is all wrong. Don't throw the racist label at them (many of them probably are racist but it won't do anything to sway anyone). Instead pin them down on their lack of substance in what they are proposing. Look at any time Farage is pinned down on specifics, he loses his cool very quickly. He can laugh off accusations of racism etc but he can't laugh off not being able to explain his own policies.

Personally I doubt anything is going to sway the reform voters now
The party can lie and they will believe

The only way the reform voters will change is if there is division in the reform party

To be fair i said that about Rings of power, no way it would fail. I thinkni saw about 15 mins of the first episode and gave up. In factnonly about 30% of people watched the series, 50% never watched episode 2 if I remember correctly.

Like you said, I think there is a vocal minority who hate her for her trans views, another maybe larger minority who agree with her views, and the majority who just dont care about the issue.

I would probably agree, there will be Howard's legacy style backlash to this series, a very loud few who will call her and the series every name under the sun, but ultimately it'll be successful like the game was

Do they need to be, Labour won with 9 milion. Do you think Labour will improve on that number? Where will the Tories be?
Out of interest, If Reform win I assume you will largely credit the win to “the lefts” reaction to reform voters and policies and calling them racist and what have you much in the same way people reacted to Trump?

Yeah but rings of Power was done by Amazon and it was ****. HBO hardly ever put a foot wrong and unlike rings of power have the original creator on board.

Obviously it could still be a load of **** and flop but my money would be on it doing well.

I mean that's my whole point…..

Labour focusing on winning people who don't want them instead of trying to galvanise the non voters

Look at Mamdani and how he has done it in New York

Reality is it's a template to win against the right.

Labour would be very smart in getting Burnham in for the next election though

Not thus far, although you have to admit Labour just gave a 'please dont vote for the fascist racist Reform' speeches.

As of right now,Farage has done a great job of exploiting the one issue, and managed to convince a small number of high profile non ethical politicians to jump on his bandwagon.

I would attribute to the rise in the right inneurope in general on the left losing the culture war in recent years by screaming racist at everyone who wants to discuss any of their principles, thats been a big problem, but Labour and Tories reaction to Reform is what will determine the next election, short of as Leinsterman accurately points out, Reform infighting and splits

If my missus, daughter and neices reaction to the news is anything to go by, it'll be an absolute smash!

This is how I see it. Reform supporters are mostly single issue voters. They aren't that interested in the state of the economy, public services and foreign policy.

Even if Farage gave a car crash performance when interviewed by the media on their other non immigration policies I don't think it would move the dial. It would take a major implosion with him at the heart of it.

Agree 100%. Mamdani will fail on his promises of course, but at least he is being progressive, proactive and isnt just running on an anti Trump platform. Thats how you mobilise voters.

We are currently working our way through book 1 as bed time stories now my daughters reading is up to snuff....

Ive never read the books or watched any of the movies, but im excited by the potential romance of this hermiany and ginger kid...
How old is your eldest daughter? The first book is great but does steadily get darker.
