BBC News - US government sues Maine over refusing to ban transgender athletes

So Republicans think that it should be for states to decide if a woman can have an abortion or not (at least they claim to, in reality they want a nationwide ban) but they don't think it's for states to decide if trans athletes can compete in women's sports...

DHS threatens to revoke Harvard's eligibility to host international students unless it turns over disciplinary records

They're really determined to **** Harvard.
But apparently the Republicans value free speech and expression and don't want an overbearing government... Bunch of ******* hypocrites.. This is a war on higher education, that Republicans have wanted to take control of for ages.

Grievance 16
"For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world."

Grievance 17
"For imposing taxes on us without our consent."

Grievance 18

Grievance 19
"For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offenses."

From the university governance. There are telling then what they can and can't teach, demanding government control over how the university is run and claims to have free rein to simply withdraw funding in a whim for purely political reasons.

But yes, by admitting it's politicking, it's showing this has nothing to do with the stated aim of fighting anti Semitism.

Trumps second term so far is full of targeted political attacks weaponising the entire government against perceived enemies. They can't go round claiming to want free speech and then directly interfere in the running of higher education establishments for not following the party line.

University governance is almost 100% Democrat at this point let's not pretend.

I agree, I mean there is anti Jewish sentiment rampant around the US and Europe, chanting about destroying isreal and killing Jews worldwide has had to be dealt with by governments, but thisnhas little to nothing to do with it.

But I also agree, Trump is on the rampage after being targeted for 8 years, who would have known that weilding the DOJ and federal government as weapons would come back to bite them in the arse *surprised pikachu face*

The only changes I want to see to sport is allowing athletes to take as many drugs as they want. I want to see what humans can achieve when doped up to the max.
I'm with you, I say let go of every reign so we only see the pinnacle of what a human being is capable of, and I mean it.

I don't care about representation and fairness, sport isn't fair. I can no better compete with a 7 foot monster at basketball, than my 5'2 missus can with me in rugby, let all restrictions off and see where mankind can go!!!

Yes places of higher education are usually liberal and democrat leaning, that doesn't give the government the right to try to seize control of them.

Slight difference is Trump himself was targeted because he had history of shall we say shady dealings at best and outright fraud at worst. By the end of his first term, he had engaged in some of the worst criminal behaviour of any president in history. That doesn't give him the right to then "get even" against anyone and everything he perceives to oppose him.. This is what actual weaponisation of government looks like compared to what Republicans claimed was happening before.

You really believe 9/11 was an inside job...?

No I don't think any politicians are usually good people, I think they are often insecure people seeking control and power. I just don't lump them all in as having the same degree of vices.

Bush did horrific things but mentioning 9/11 rather than Iraq is odd to say the least.

You're correct. From what I've heard Harvard isn't backing down and will be able to survive the Trump/Musk hypocrisy. They have a $trong Alumni Association.
