A Political Thread pt. 2

Not a bad rate for a million attendees.

Face recognition can get in the bin.

Especially considering they locked loads of people away who were going to attend they didnt want to attend...

400 odd arrested, a couple of stabbings...

About standard for a London borough weekend.

So it looks like Farage has struck early and Gazumped both Tories and Labour, bit flashy speech, and promises of hard line upholding the law on illegal entries...

FFS Labour need a solid response, I fear Starmer will drop another Enoch Powell reference, while vaguely talking about fixing a problem with absolutely no plan whatsoever.

The Tory race to 0 may become a Labour race to 0 soon if there becomes a viable alternative!

If this government fails as badly as the last one did regarding the channel crossings then we will end up with a Reform government and given how they are managing the local councils they have we will all be ******

It's the usual populist tactic of big promises but not exactly looking at the practicalities. Deportation requires agreements with the target nations. If he doesn't get said agreements, then what? As usual there isn't a response because the only response is to make even bigger, even less workable promises.

There is no way they can win the war of words on this issue, the chance for the mainstream parties to nip this in the bud is long gone. They should have acted on the growing resentment ages ago but refused to actually do anything of substance. Labour didn't take a strong stance against it and, whilst the Tories did, their track record of actual action was abysmal. All they can really do is try to pin Farage down on detail, he has consistently tripped up when challenged that way. No need to insult him, just calmly but firmly get him to give details and don't accept deflection or empty rhetoric. Previous times this tactic has been employed, he has unravelled and his nasty side has come to the fore.

I do think the next election is going to morph into a single issue election and Reform could sweep in off the back of it, despite having an already atrocious track record with what little power they have.

If we end up with a reform government I'm leaving, **** this backwater country.

I 100% agree!

My fear is, as Ed Davey the ******* moron has shown, that they'll combat this with 'aaaaarrrrrrgggghhhh literally Hitler confirmed'

That hands Farage power, the better play is just to explore his plan in public, get specifics, and let those specifics speak for themselves!

Take the Taliban deal, explore that further and find out what kind of sweet deal that gets Farage into bed with them, for the sake of a few thousand people.

The problem Starmer has, is that i think the left are so blindly dumb, they will turn on him for not responding like they do, places like the Council for the Welfare of Immigrants, Red Cross, and refugees action will loudly lambast Labour for being complicit.

Even the various pods i listen to are commentating on how little the government are saying to combat Farage. Labour are worrying about the left and the right and don't know what to do. It all goes against Starmers human rights backgroud.

Other than towing the party line of the one in, one out deal with Fance and the stream lining of the application process.

There are so many holes in Farages ideas, what to do with children, numerous places we have no returns agreement, you can't just bin the ECHR due to the Good Friday Agreement.

It's turning into a one issue election and they need to turn it around.

As predicted I have increasingly seen people in favour of PR now in favour of fptp. When i feel it shows it wasn't about democracy and fairness, it's about there idea of the "right side" being elected only.

Every time he announces a "policy" with his face hole someone should be asking him how it's going to be paid for and headlining that. Our media is pathetic.

£12bn for a new penal system before a single person is deported to who knows where. Given that we can barely stuff another 12 people into the existing penal system it seems a little unlikely we can afford it.

Cllr Martin Griffiths, the Reform leader of North Northamptonshire Council, said this evening (Tuesday): “I fully respect Councillor Robert Bloom’s decision to resign from the council, which he has done for personal reasons."

Didn't realise being a hideous racist **** was a 'personal reason'

Leaving the ECHR is 100% guaranteed to leave the UK more isolated from Europe. We will be battling it out with Russia for the biggest pariah prize.

I still can't get my head around the fact that the Tories official job is to hold the Govt to account. It just highlights the broken two party power sharing system. Starmer's cabinet is sorely lacking in high calibre people. Cooper seems to be the only one who isn't awful.
