A Political Thread pt. 2

Is anyone actually think Ukraine will hold out? I thought general thinking is just how long they'll hold out for and how horrible they can the invasion and post invasion for Russia.
I just can't see how it's going to end
I doubt Russia is going to slink off with it's tail between it's legs - this whole exercise has been to flex it's muscles on the world stage, I doubt retreat is an option whatsoever
But equally if they do arrest/kill Zelensky the west isn't going to recognise their puppet regime and will keep imposing sanctions etc.
also the Russian invasion is now being investigated by the ICC for war crimes so it's not going to go away as easily as they want

Best possible solution is Putin pops his clogs, someone more sensible takes over and holds his hands up and says "Why can't we all be friends?" and pulls out of Ukraine and diplomacy can start to repair the damage
If Putin survives for a while then best possible situation is they keep blasting Ukraine until the official resistance dies down (i.e. the Ukrainian army ceases to exist and it turns into a guerilla warfare situation) and then pulls back to the Eastern breakaway regions and absorbs them into Russia

Putin initiated a call with Macron yesterday. Nothing productive came of it but it's interesting that Macron appears to be the leader he respects. It's also strange that he bothered, it sounded as if he was trying to justify his position and he surely knew it'd fall on deaf ears.

I think Macron is absolutely fantastic and France are going from a fairly ropey situation to as strong a nation as they've been in my lifetime under him. Definitely the type of leader I want from the big four in the EU and he seems to be taking Merkel's role as a European leader, long may it last.

I don't think anyone's ever thought that Ukraine would actually win this thing - it's a question of how much damage they could inflict and how long they could hold out for - and how likely they are to go guerrilla afterwards.

Quite honestly, it's already lasted longer than best case scenario; and they've already given Russia a bloodier nose than anyone expected. Mostly due to Russian ineptitude - which surely can't last.
Options really are that Ukraine becomes a vassal state, Ukraine becomes radioactive rubble, or Putin is taken out by the Praetorian Guard

Just another reason to get shot of the monarchy as far as I can see.

If the royal family see themselves doing anything useful for the country in the modern era, it must be as a moral compass or ambassadors for the people.

Well - here's a prime example of where they can say "no, that's not acceptable".

Well that’s the thing they are supposed to be ambassadors/moral compass but they really aren’t as the whole Prince Andrew scandal has shown. The Monarch is there to protect the family and it’s legacy/ not the UK or her subjects. So the Queen will do whatever her PM tells her to do.

I always go back to George V who let the Romanovs die rather than give safe passage to England to stop Bolshevism spreading to Britain way back in 1917, as the ultimate evidence of this.

The convoy supposedly ran out of fuel yesterday....

I'm getting the impression that one of two things has happen, either they never really intended to invade Ukraine but after it being mooted for months they decided "**** it lets do it anyway". Or they thought they would just walk in. either point to a great military fuckup in planning and intelligence.
