Obviously Wragg has seriously screwed up, but the bloke has also been a victim of sexual blackmail, which is an awful crime to be subjected to in and of itself. I do wonder if people are being harsher on him than they would if he wasn't who he is. It's just awful to think about.

Really, he should just stick around in parliament and do what he can to raise awareness of the kind of crime that he's been subject to, because he is far from alone.

He's definitely a victim, but he also had a choice. He could have reported it to the police at the start. He knows he is a politician and the risks that come with that. These situations can quickly snowball and he had a responsibility to stop it before it started, even if it would be embarrassing.

I'm not involved with the law so maybe someone could clear this up but what is the point of this that isn't covered under existing legislation? Surely, because of the huge overlap with existing assault laws etc, you just get prosecuted for both? Does this allow them to set different sentencing guidelines and punishments for this specific offense vs regular assault?

Isn't that it? there isn't any point. It's just to cover up for the lack of police/the courts that the Tories have underfunded and cut in the last 14 years. They have to be seen to be doing something.

TBF that's what they did with nicking Labour's policy on removing the Non-Doms' tax rule. Although funnily enough they're allowing the likes of Rishi's wife to put her Infosys shares into trust before 6/4 next year to avoid IHT🤔. All the more reason to vote them out.

Tesco says price pressures easing as profits soar

The UK's biggest supermarket chain made annual pre-tax profits of nearly £2.3bn up from £882m.

Good to know that price pressures are easing.
Not quite sure how that marries up with a 4.4% increase on sales leading to a 260% increase in profits, or the ever increasing use of food banks (no figure available for the same timeframe).

It's almost like supermarkets (and other businesses) are creating inflation through price gouging, rather than reluctantly increasing prices as their costs go up through inflation.
 
The Government have sat back and allowed big business (especially supermarkets) to fleece us. It's basically a stealth tax - a massive transfer of wealth from Joe Public to big business. I appreciate that many businesses suffered during COVID but supermarkets were the ones that benefited the most.

If the Tories really cared about helping people through a cost of living crisis they would have imposed a windfall tax on energy companies and supermarkets and used the money to help those people that needed it.
