A Political Thread pt. 2

I mean apart from the name drop, can't argue with much of that.

The onus is on Isreal, and rightfully so, but there are bigger agendas at play also, isreal is needed by the global powers.

I think it was Douglas Murray who claims to play the 'thought experiment' of what would happen if either side layed down their weapons, if Hamas waved the white flag there would be net positives for the Palestinian people, if Isreal did so I dread to think what would follow.
I kind of agree with that but then he also always says Hamas could end the war tomorrow by handing back the hostages. That is complete BS and I think he knows it. A lot of his framing is disingenuous imo.

Agreed, he's probably the most outspoken about Isreal being 100% innocent. During the Rogan podcast he was claiming the restrictions on food going in to gaza were fully justified, and I just can't accept that lol.

Truth is, every peice of info coming out of the entire region is misrepresented and half truths, I'm sure Trump learned his politicking directly from the IDF and Hamas lol

Agreed. As a rule of thumb if any pundit/analyst or whatever is subscribing 100% blame to one side in this conflict and at the same time absolving the other side of any blame then you know they’re not worth listening to even if they say things you agree with.

To rekindle our previous discussion, listen to historians on matters of history. Any half decent historian is going to provide context to a conflict/historical event(s) obviously these need to be backed up with what the historical records show and what the facts are as well (which more often than not you’ll get consensus on amongst historians) but listen to the experts. I know Murray calls himself an expert in this and he’s clearly knowledgable but he’s not a historian and i wouldn’t trust him. I’ve enjoyed listening to Benny Morris. Concedes both sides failures over the years but clearly has an extensive knowledge of the history and it seems well respected (though I saw him do a thing not so long ago where some people in the crowd called him racist or some ********)

I don't really know him very well, I think I saw him get questioned once on the war by the insufferable Mehdi Hasan. Seemed reasonable enough, despite the underhanded tactics and crowdd laughing and booing him lol.

Didn't he once say he'd rather be a racist than a bore lol?

I think that was the thing I was thinking of. Mehdi Hasan was incredibly bad faith in that whole discussion (if you can call it that)

I like him when he talks about Trump, though, he just clearly finds it hard to be objective about the Isreal Palestine thing probably due to his religion would be my guess.

I've not heard Benny Morris say that but I'm not an expert on him.

Yes I checked, it was him. In a class he's being screamed at by students, he calls them boring, they call him racist, it was a pretty good riff to be fair. The faux outrage after he says it is hilarious.
