BBC News - South Western first rail firm renationalised by Labour

At long bloody last. Just got to finish up with the rest and then the water companies.
It's interesting at the end of summer I'm doing a massive train trip from nearby station all the way to Krakow and back. But we just make it so prohibitively expensive in this country.

So.... GB"News" have "organised" a nationwide strike in order to shame Labour into calling a general election... somehow.
The strike is taking this place this weekend.
Which is a bank holiday
And half term
So hardly anyone is at work anyway
erm
yeah
Surely they're in breach of some Ofcom rule or another as a "news" broadcaster. Imagine the Beeb trying this on

Trains in Poland are mint 👍
They are ok, not perfect though.
We'll see I'm mainly using them in between countries so the Krakow ones are from Prague and to Vienna.
PKP Intercity? :) I read recently that they made this "line" even longer, till Montenegro (through Prague,Vienna and Slovenia).
We were also thinking to "test" those new European lines as I love trains, but haven't had such an opportunity yet, mostly travelling by car here and was travelling a lot by bus previously

They are considerably better than the UK trains

EC115 and IC107 are the two currently planned.

Or schedule meant we had to get to Krakow a day before due being there which created issues if wanting not wanting to fly Easy Jet. So we decided to make a slightly more expensive journey.

Car drive was the other choice but we did that on West Coast Canada last year. Plus wanted to try a couple of sleeper trains.

The first one is Czech and the second one seems to be Polish PKP,so I was almost right 😄

You've never been to sleeper trains before?:D sounds unusual.
I've been a lot of times many years ago. Checked Polish PKP sleeper wagons on their site.. doesn't look good, hopefully it's better in reality. The best sleeper train I had was Warsaw-Moscow something like 6-7 years ago: super modern and comfortable (but I guess it was Russian/Bielorussian line), with large modern showers and toilets, sofas that were transforming to comfortable beds.. was very cool and luxury way to go to Belarus/Russia (but obviously not available from Europe anymore).
By the way, there's an interesting sight in Poland related to sleeper trains: in Białowieża there's an old train station built under Emperor Nikolay II (or "Tsar Nicholas" ) that was transformed into restaurant with Russian cuisine and Tsars' sleeper wagons with restaured beds/tables that you can rent for a night. We've been there in two wagons for a couple of nights, incredible experience. If you'll have more time,I recommend to visit it (as well as restaurant,it looks like a minipalace, a lot of luxury dishes with caviar etc, "White" Russian romances playing as music).
If you're visiting only Krakow, then I highly recommend to visit: Krakow's museum under city market, Oświęcim/Auschwitz and Wieliczka salt mine. There's also another salt mine called Bochnia, more "wild" one where you can spend a night 250 m under earth, also interesting experience (I've been there recently, was great)

The sleepers are European Sleeper and OBB

Trip is UK->Amsterdam->Prague->Krakor->Vienna->Brussels->UK

We're visiting Krakow for specific reasons and don't have loads of time but have made time in the itinerary to visit Auschwitz.

Have you already booked tickets to Auschwitz? It's pretty hard to go there sometimes, better book in advance (and don't forget to take passports there, it's important). Also, once you'll be there, there's a shop where you can buy incredible autobiographies such as "Hope is the last to die" by Halina Birenbaum and "I survived Auschwitz " by Krystyna Żywulska, I highly recommend to read them (maybe even better to buy and read them online before visiting), I was impressed when I read those books after visiting this place..

I'll be at Auschwitz in a few months with a group of homeless teens from South Wales...

Terrified it'll go wrong as most are on the spectrum, plenty are drunk users and there's a lot of criminality. Risk assessing was a nightmare, but got pushed through, and government funded trip...

Looking forward to the chaos!

Would not be surprised if it's similar with Farage/reform etc

If Trump’s basic message is to tear down a broken and rigged system, then those that are failing in the current system, are much more likely to support that message.

Those thriving in the system, will support the current system

The Beijing to Xian overnight sleeper is an interesting train ride. Although sometimes you have to go looking to find a non squat toilet!!

Yeah,it sounds chaotic...remind them all the time that they'll be checked at the gate there as for a flight in airport and remind them all the time to take their passports there (you can't enter there without passport as well as with prohibited things).
If you want to calm them down a bit before a visit, show them the Soviet anti-war film called "Come and see", where the main character is also a teenager. It's overrealistic and really scary (best anti-war film I've ever seen). Available on YouTube with English subtitles

Harvard is offering free courses in things like how government is supposed to work, legal right if encountering police / ice, understanding the constitution, recognising a dictatorial takeover etc
