A Political Thread pt. 2

I actually earned more money last year than at any other point in my life (much to the delight of the British tax man) but yeah get it. In a previous relationship I absolutely wouldn't have taken the chance on being self employed. It was just too risky.
Why it was too risky in your previous relationship (if not secret)? Because of children or because your wife didn't work?
Asking because of curiosity how does it "work" in western relationships: whether women should work or it's more or less like in Slavic families (where men are "head of families" and rather they're working while women are more on "home work") ? :D

Well she was slavic...that's all I'm saying 😂

Looks like she caught Corbyn off guard hahaha
EXCLUSIVE: I understand Jeremy Corbyn has not agreed to join the new left party with Zarah Sultana yet

He is furious and bewildered at the way it has been launched without consultation.

Yeh was thinking whether there were also
IR35 issues and they really were employees but for the company and should have been under PAYE. But if they were only here for a certain parts of the year they were not ordinarily resident here so no NIC. Your company also wouldn't want to pay employer's NIC, and so another way to reduce costs and put all the tax admin on those drivers.
Yeah IR35 ended it but by then the Traffic Commissioners where telling people like me to have nothing to do with them. It was a bit of a half way house. If you had set routes/contracts etc it was always more cost effective to employ drivers despite the pensions etc because agency drivers were/are very expensive. These drivers were a bit of a half way house and I think ultimately the agencies were the ones to make the biggest fuss out of it because they lost their monopoly on HGV drivers for a few years...then Brexit happened and we'll you know the rest.

Wonder if Trump will bring this up to Benjamin Netanyahu the way he did to the South African leader... Won't hold me breath.

To compliment.

Agents are sharks whatever business they’re in. They’re the ones that have sold these so called umbrella companies to self employed contractors to avoid tax/NICs without taking any responsibility for the consequences.

Often then leaving these contractors with massive tax liabilities when caught up and some contractors suicidal because they didn’t understand what they were getting themselves into and no longer having the cash to pay it.

Always go by the mantra - “if it’s too good to be true, it probably is.”

I've noticed it's getting worse and worse in the sector I'm working for example. My employer is not even the worst, I've heard JP Morgan (office in Warsaw) just made 100% office work and completely removed home office....we have 60% home office, but will move to 50% next year. Also, they're cutting benefits for employees step by step. It also strongly impacts atmosphere among employees..I even started to think to change the field of work (and I was pretty happy with my work all last years)
Unsurprised by JP Morgan, my American overlord have a very similar attitude. Although I do agree office working helps a lot in certain circumstances but it requires the entire team to be in.

There is a person in my office who is the only member of his team in the office. Likewise other offices only have 1 member of the team in them. They spend most of their time on teams anyway to communicate so the idea they need to be in the office is laughable.

Interesting conversation with Iranian collegue, who thankfully made it home safe even if it did apparently take her days to get out of Iran and back to the UK. Supposed when Israel first attacked they were quite happy as they took out a whole bunch of military commanders that were hated. Supposedly the Iranian government is universally disliked by the population just hard to do something about it. But after a few days it was quite hellish because they didn't know when it would stop. Didn't hear her opinion on the American's taking part.

Said she didn't quite realyised how stressful it was until she had the relief of getting home.

Yeah thats what I was getting at, if I can go talk to a person physically there are massive advantages to face to face communications. But that only works if we all are. I spend my entire life on teams because I have to communicate with Canada (ideally I should spending 25-33% of my time in office out there).

We're all also on teams and most of the team sit pretty far from each other when working from the office... I wouldn't say office working really helps team spirit

I am starting a new job later this month and was told in the interview they are looking for move to 60% in the office and rest at home. Before it was 50/50. Looks like more and more shifting back to the office and there’s going to be a lot of resistance or unhappiness as a result.
