Oh, I didn’t realize Buddhism is older than Judaism? Oh wait. It isn’t.

Judaism through Christ transformed the Roman Empire. This is very basic religious history.

Do they not discuss this in UK schools?
So is it Christian or Jewish?

"It’s a purely Christian idea."

I know education is limited in US schools, particularly now but the basics should have been taught.

Even if you now believe it to be Jewish rather than christian it is still predated by the ancient Egyptians and they are only worth a mention because we have evidence they wrote it down.

The TRF is read internationally, you yourself are evidence of this, to parade and almost appear proud of your ignorance in front of such a global audience is not a good look

How far you wanna go back? Sumer? Want to discuss the pre-monotheistic religions?

Happy to point you to dozens of source materials.
So what do the pre monotheistic religions have to do with Christianity? You gone from saying your religion invented it to saying it didn't.

I'm so confused

So who invented basic human decency? and did they copyright it?
Well the christians apparently. Or it might be the Jewish. Or it could be something to do with the Sumerians. I think we might be getting back to the guys who decided settling in pretty much one place came up with it. You're going to have to ask ChicagoKid, he's an expert.

Religion, imo, was a tool built to control rather than to up hold basic human decency.
Regardless of religion, the belief and foundation of empathy, compassion etc etc remain. Nurture helps build upon those foundations.

You do not need religion to nurture those beliefs. Elephants, for example, have an insane amount of empathy not just to their own species but to others

If it were the case, why are all forms of early religion so sexist? Or is it all down to that blasted Eve and her love of apples?

Is anyone here a regular attendee to a religious service? Not exclusively Christian. Just any religious affiliation whatsoever.

I attend the Millenium stadium and pray half a dozen times a year, its like my Mecca. Then i regularly attend the little church next door and verbally abuse child sized rugby players another dozen times a year...

I feel like this counts

That's just depressing. They were the core of "the third way". The idea you could embrace aspiration and ambition while maintaining a safety net for those that truly need it. To me it's neither left nor right but basic humanity.

I feel like, and i mean this in no insulting way, that similar to myself the modern day left, or liberals have left your positions, and the right have started to adopt them.

I think the whole idea of left and right has been totally redefined. Not only that but the definition is no longer consistent. Back in the day Reagan and Thatcher were roughly on the same page, Blair and Clinton similarly. Now the far left in the US is to a large extent where Thatcher sat.

I still consider myself firmly centre left although I'm older and so have lost patience with some elements of society

I’m in Greece at the moment. I’m going to tell all the locals that the birthplace of democracy and western philosophy was all a sham. It’s the Christian’s who came up with moral philosophy and what have you.

Anyone under 35? Me too

Well to be fair it wasn't really there either. They probably just codified it

Sorry, I know you like to avoid questions sometimes but what did I say about your wife?
Good for her. Considering your wife is Jewish, it’s interesting you have no view, none whatsoever, on the whole shabang going on over there for the last century or so but will chip in with your views on the UK which you know **** all about.

This was after accusing me of affiliating with known Anti-Semite Nick Fuentes.

Errr, excuse me, how is me saying good for her some kind of slight?
