I don't think Blair was wrong completely I think the bigger issue was suggesting technical education was not university equivalent.

The Polytechnic's were already out of style. before Blair so he can't be entirely to blame.

When your in an engineering discipline you really see the virtues of both.

I've just bought (last week) this to wear clearly on my waistcoat so everyone knows unequivocally where I stand on this issue, and many, many similar previous related events.

100% there’s a place for both.

But with the way things have developed, many uni degrees have led to inflated, unfulfilled expectations and been devalued as the scarcity premium has vanished. And that’s before you even think about cost.

I'm being genuine, obviously it's a cross but I presumed due to its name/design it was some off shoot or knights Templar or mason **** or something

Is he just saying he's a Christian?

That sir is complete and utter bullSh!t
Blair and most of New Labour, and ensuant Govts to date,hate and despise the British working class and have done everything in their power to keep them as the last constituency considered and at the back of the queue for development and progression.

Having a Polytechnic degree which typically required 6/12 months of industrial placement almost guaranteed the graduate a job after finishing study.

Is this not the case?

Define what is working class in the UK.

How many Polytechnics has the uk had 30-40. Doesn't scream helping out the working classes, and all closed by 1993 before minium wage was a thing. Certainly **** all to do with Blair.

The national minimum wage made a massive difference. Certainly helped more people than the few polytechnics.

Hate is such a strong word. Do you really think Tony Blair woke up every morning thinking how do I screw over the working class today? The New Labour government did more to help those traditionally considered working class than any recent government. 50% rule was well intentioned but not very well thought through, there needed to be an alternative and there wasn't one.

Now to the working class, do you really believe it still exists? Can you define it in an age when plumbers send their children to private school and office workers struggle to meet their rent?
The current classes make more sense as the benefits class, the rental class (including those that can only aspire to rent) and the home ownership class.
And I went to a polytechnic, I actually chose to go to one rather than a traditional uni. They weren't the ideal some make them out to be with their own issues.

Saintjay covered but I really suggest you look up when the Polytechnics were converted into Universties (1992) and when Blair became Prime Minister (1997)

I also suggest looking up when the white papers to no longer make higher education free were drawn up.

Im not saying he was ideal or even close but we actually have to remember most the damage was done under Thatcher/Major. Also social mobility was at it its highest under Blair he just may have not have the best strategy for the very long term. But reality is more kids went to higher education because of him and initially did get higher aspirations for it.

I went to an ex-Polytechnic some of that stuff was still groubded in there 25 years ago my father went to one.

Also a better educated society is better in general the issue with flooding the job market is a primary concern but shouldnt be sad younger generations have better critical thinking and learning levels than us.
 
Turns out the Berlin pride attacker was not only known to police and German government as an extreme Islamist (think thats the right word). Notnonly did he travel to be part of IS's cause, when arrested he was returned to Germany for sentencing, and was released as his sentence was suspended during an appeal...

A known terrorist, attempts to leave Germany to fight for a terror organisation, is returned to face up to his crimes and released on a suspended sentence.... and goes and does this.

At this point there needs to be someone held to account, Berlin is rocked, 1 dead 29 injured, thousands traumatised due to the German government failure!

Unreal, no wonder my in laws are so angry right now!

Its not surprising at all, people advoxate for stupidity all the time, flat earth, master race of reptilians, COVID was natural, Bush did 9/11 or the greatest one that there is an invisible all powerfull all knowing friend who lives in the sky we must all praise too, and he is the true friend and the other thousands of invisible friends are fake hahahahaha

But the point is the, the planet has been a rock of ice, its also been an unlivable desert climate, CO2 has been 6/8/10 × higher than it is now, its also been half the levels of today (ppm)... we are on a rock, that will decide when we die out, regardless of what we do short of managing the weather and climate with tech.

The question becomes what rate of change are we contributing, and if we are to believe the politicians, celebreties and other world leaders then why do they continue to act in such an opposing way of what they say?
