Is it just me or are some of the 'young stars' being overshadowed at the moment by the older guys. Now that Super Rugby is getting tighter and the weathers getting worse, the games are more like 'test matches' and players like Nonu, Whitelock, Franks, Woodcock, McCaw, Jane Conrad Smith and even Mealamu are still the best in their positions.
I worry it may be a bit like the 90's and possibly the 2006/7 team where no one was pushing the older guys and they become complacent.
We have plenty of depth in the outside backs and you could pick any number of players to start, the same goes for halfback, lock and blindside. The natural progression should see a young bloke coming through so talented that you have to drop the veteran or there is a short gap between careers like when McCaw replaced Kronfeld or Carter for Merhts/Spencer.
After the June series I would love to see Fekitoa, Coles, Tuipolutu, and another prop really putting their hands up and causing the selectors concerns - not just content with making the squad.
Should we really have the same starting 15 from the 2011 final in the next world cup (obviously Thorn and Weepu won't be there)
