Aviva Premiership Round 12

He was only here short term anyway - until the end of the season at most, but most likely less as he's going to be working in SA doing TV analysis for the Super Rugby season. His Wife lives there, and he's building a house there too.
He was asked last week how long he'd be around and avoided the question (just literally said nothing, and the interviewer moved on).
Statement from Brian Kennedy suggests he's gone for good:
Brian Kennedy commented, " John was brought in on a consultancy basis with a view to the possibility of being employed in a longer term position within Sale Sharks. He has had to return to South Africa for personal reasons which we respect. We are grateful for his valuable and insightful contributions albeit for a shorter term than envisaged. Steve Diamond, Bryan Redpath and Pete Anglesea will continue to coach the side, implementing many of John's ideas, and building on last nights excellent performance."

Rats and sinking ships spring to mind.

Either that or Steve Diamond as per usual is interfering with every echelon of the team and he said "well to hell with this".

This isn't all just Harlequins being off the boil... L Irish are playing some good rugby!

"good" is a bit generous - they're both playing pretty terrible.
I feel sorry for the 80k that have to sit through this muck in person!

I agree....pretty tame stuff!!

Irish defended reasonably well (compared to recent past) but could not get the ball as their line out and scrums are shite.....................Quiins game plan is to not lose!

Good in the context of their position. There was a period of 10-15 mins where Harlequins were pinned in their half with some good sustained pressure and some nice in-field kicking. They didn't really threaten the Quins tryline, but should have done more to force penalties to come their way. Scrum was strange, Quins went in hard with the hit, but there were points where Irish was able to ride it and force the Quins backwards (tailed off towards the end when their props went off) - unlucky to have been penalised anyway for loss of bind.

Gloucester getting rinsed in the scrum - just lost Knight for 10mins for repeated scrum infringements as well.

Gloucester were holding on well before, but dunno what's gonna happen now.

Edit:
Gloucester on the verge of losing their 2nd tighthead to the bin and manage to win a penalty!
Cockerill not happy in the slightest

Hahaha, all that complete domination in the Gloucester 22m but Tigers keep going for the scrum. Glaws clear, get their carded player back and then Ben Youngs gets carded.
Loving how gutted the Welford Rd crowd are.

Why didn't Leicester go for a penalty after all those scrums? Stupid decision.

Mixture of arrogance going for the penalty try, and lack of trust in Ford?

They could well regret that though.

Haha, arrogant is an understatement when you're playing for the penalty try from about 10-15m out. They'd have needed about half a dozen penalties in succession! The penalty looked fairly easy too.

I bet Saints fans are dead excited that they're linked with Ford. :p Tigers would be winning comfortably if Flood was on...

Wake up call for the Glos scrum. Up until now, it's been a real weapon for Glos this season. But chuffed to be in the lead. Burns is doing it right (mostly...).

They got a penalty try vs Treviso from about 10m out - but then they were gaining a few m each penalty, and the ref had given final warning to another prop so made sense to crack on.

What's great about these muddy matches is that you can tell who the fresh legs on the pitch are. :)

das

Flah! Exciting end to the game and can't be too disappointed with the result. Trinder and May back within 2 weeks, hopefully our attacking play will go up a notch then.

Scrum needs working on. A lot.

Massive kick for Myler to win the game.
In his own half and on the angle.
Bold choice as there was still time for the lineout....

It hit the bloody crossbar!
