Just for one match this time!

Melbourne Rebels fullback Kurtley Beale has been suspended by the Super 15 team just one match after returning from a month-long ban for an alcohol-fueled altercation with two teammates.
The Rebels said in a statement Thursday that Beale, 24, would not play in Saturday's match against the Blues in Auckland because he had "breached behavioral guidelines ... which were agreed to in full by Kurtley. The relevant parties will meet to discuss any future course of action.''
No official reason was given for the ban, although Australian Associated Press reported that Beale had admitted to team officials that he drank alcohol with some teammates last Saturday. He also was reported to have missed an appointment with a psychologist as part of his continuing counseling sessions.
Beale, who had still hoped to play for Australia against the British and Irish Lions in three tests in June and July, had missed the previous six games; first through a broken hand and then the suspension for his drunken altercations in late March after a Rebels match in South Africa.
After undergoing counseling for a month, he returned to training on April 30 and was named as a reserve a day later.

He came off the bench to score a try in the Rebels' 39-33 loss to the Chiefs last weekend.
After the Chiefs match, Melbourne coach Damien Hill said he planned to put Beale back into the starting side against the Blues.
"He was electric, he added so much to our attack,'' Hill said.
On Thursday, Hill said he was disappointed with Beale's most recent actions.
"You can't shy away from the fact that he is one of the best footballers in the country,'' Hill said. ``It's just unfortunate that the behavioral side is interfering with that at the moment.''
Hill said Beale was remorseful and felt he'd let his teammates and himself down. He said time would tell if Beale ever plays for the Rebels again.
"It's probably too early to comment on that,'' Hill said. ``Everybody wants a fit and healthy Kurtley on and off the field so he can perform. It's a work in progress and there's a lot more to be done.''

shame, rebs didn't look like they were a serious threat last weekend till beale was on, the bits we've seen of him suggest he's prob the most dangerous attacking player in Aussie right now yet he can't keep his pants clean for more than a week at a time :p

<article> The Melbourne Rebels have announced the Wallabies back Kurtley Beale has taken an indefinite leave of absence from Rugby.
The Rebels released a statement saying that,"Kurtley will take an indefinite leave of absence from playing rugby to seek assistance in resolving personal issues."
"Kurtley has voluntarily entered a private health facility in order to undertake counselling for ongoing issues."
"He has done this with the backing of ARU, RUPA and the Melbourne Rebels who congratulate him on this decision to seek assistance."
"Any future selection will be dependent upon successful completion of his treatment program."

Not sure if I should pity the guy or not. One day he will be telling his Grandkids he missed out on playing the Lions cause he is a bit of a dud as a human being...

Good on him and the forces behind the decision - however I will sorely miss seeing him play against the Lions.

Basically guarantees Folau that starting 15.

I honestly thought you were just posting old news thinking it was new :P

Maybe it's arrogance but I feel that in the same situation I could handle being a pro rugby player much better than Beale, Guildford etc - and I put that down to not being a complete **** wit. It always seems like everyone is happy to say 'good on him for getting help', and by no means am I saying that alcohol dependance isn't an issue that effects millions of intellegent people, but the rate of it in pro rugby players makes me think its more of a 'idiots who get given a crap load of stuff without learning how to appreciate what they get given'. Okay he'll miss a Lions tour - but I doubt he even values it that much. He's ganna come back and still earn $600k+ a year, despite not being mentally capable enough to fulfill his job.

I agree 100% with you Nick.

Why Pity the fools?? I have seen it with my own brother. All these young up and comers, who gets so much attention, get free booze when they win, and have wild outrageous parties after the game. No sense of responsibility, as they don't have to clean up the mess they made, it will be cleaned up for him. The carelessness by these Drunken Monkeys will at some stage take it's toll, some worse than others. But the same goes for alcohol abuse as to any other abuse known to man: It's your own choice to stop. Now that Beale is at that point, let's see if he will be able come back from it?

It's a shame the Rebels seem to keep attracting alcoholics. First Cipriani & now Beale, what next are they going to take Guildford off us.

But in all seriousness I hope he recovers from it because his combination with O'Connor against the Crusaders was going pretty good.
