Outside of Sport these people were recognized: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20858353

Justly deserved in my opinion, plus he's an avid League fan :).

Good on him.
A little surprised he's got it now, would've thought he'd get it when he retired or something - but very well deserved.

Don't think sportsmen should be knighted.

Humbug.

I agree with j nuh.

Historically knight were defenders of the realm. Despite sports being the most common battlefield these days between nations , I still believe that knghting someone for cycling really fast when historically knights were men who put themselves in the way of very sharp lumps of metal and tried to put very sharp lumps of metal in other knights.

Same goes for inauguration to the legion d'honneur in France .

Fair enough, but at least fifty years out of date.

Having set the precedent, him and ainslie are outstanding candidates.

Sitting on a horse isn't a sport anyway.
Horse dancing should be at the horse equivalent of Crufts, not the olympics.

If they can give them to poncey actors and bankers who cock the economy up then why not give them to a sportsman.
