England World Cup Squad

12 days to go and the discussion is about LCD being a better hooker than George :D :D

We're losing our minds...
Least weve accepted the SH situation :).

Not the worst argument i mean least with the hookers we are happy with the 2 just contenplating where they should start.

For me George is the clearly ahead(coming from a chiefs fan). LCD starting i dont disagree with either ad i think george has always made an impact from the bench and might actually help us keep our heads in the second half but for the fast start we like for me george should be starting. I know im going against the numbers with this but i dont care as George's handling skills are so much better than LCDs not number of passes but ability to pass. Given our other first front row is mako and sinks we have a real strong powerful front row with great hands that teams cant ignore. We have itoje for that abbrasive edge. And the front row and billy/wilson as strong carriers in the pack. LCDs slight superiority in carrying and open play isnt the main thing we need.

Look, Yeandle is typically the preferred starter at Chiefs, so if that doesn’t put this argument to bed once and for all, I don’t know what does? Even LCD’s club think he’s better off the bench.

Just had a look at this 6 nations stats for George
Mins, P, R , MR
Ire 77 ,2 ,4, 9
Fra 62 ,1 ,4 ,17 ,
Wal 80 ,0 ,3 ,1
Ita 59 ,1 ,1 ,1
Sco 74 ,2 ,11 ,40

Hardly earth shattering stats ,Scotland excepted.
It reinforces what my eyes tell me watching him play.
I'm not saying hes a bad player ,just the hype he seems to receive is unwarranted.

It seems to me ,nowadays a player cant just be a normal decent player anymore , they're either world beaters or a bag of shite. Commentators have a lot to answer in that regard.

It's a bad argument, though.
The minuscule perceived difference between their loose game doesn't overcome the massive actual difference in their set piece play.

If Hartley was fit LCD wouldn't be in the 23,
Hell if Taylor wasn't made of tissue paper he probably wouldn't be on the plane seeing as Taylor is as good elsewhere but better in the set piece.

Like I said: I can't see any argument why LCD would be in with a shout of starting any first choice game.

You and i both know that with Eddie Jones around we could have three hookers and 6 locks in any 23!

Singleton's turned up with his wrist in a cast (explains why he wasn't involved vs Italy),

So we're sitting at 28? 27? fit players atm.
Surely there will be someone to replace singleton already teed up? Who is next in line? Thacker?(not starting a thing just saying) Dunn? Who else? Can marler throw? Lol hes already a LH and TH why not HK aswell.

Dunn is the next cab off the rank having been in the original camps
Woth how little gametime singleton had in actually wouldnt too unhappy with dunn as he is more experienced and a solid hooker. Not first choice but good.

Rob Webber? more international experience than Singleton, Thacker and Dunn put together, not suggesting he's a world beater but as 3rd choice hooker, could do worse...

Yes, I've always said Hartley is my starting hooker and captain (think George is a better player but Hartley is the best captain option we have, and we play better with him as the leader).

It's still weird as **** to me. I'd have laughed you out of the bar for suggesting Hartley as captain four years ago but I totally agree. Although some of that is down to our current captain, but I'll admit he at least seems to be improving when talking to the ref (in his manners. Not so much what he chooses to highlight. But he's only a back, so... )

Still rehabbing, I think - he posted about it on Instagram recently.

I don't think Singleton is injured enough to be sent home - they wouldn't have taken him otherwise, I mean it's not like he's got experience on his side or anything. It was a soft cast rather than a big plaster one - maybe a sprain?

If he were to be replaced then we'd be down to our 5th choice, lol

Mike Brown interview. He’s got a point.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/49666971
Read it then had a look at the first 20 or so comments, yikes at the latter;

"Brown doesn't pass, he gets in fights all the time, unnecessary contact in carries that makes the viewer wince, doesn't deserve to be anywhere near there, etc"

I do worry that rugby is being overly sanitised by people who don't understand or really enjoy the game and would rather touch/tag 7 a side or similar. I guess that's an argument for elsewhere though... Brown is very unlucky not to be named IMO.
