PC isn't see the giant leap it used to. At this point, a mid PC would see you able to play most games on good settings or low for the triple A stuff. Buying a console makes less sense as they have a short life.

Playing this on low for example would not be bad and it only requires a GTX 1050

Depends what you're after. Most enthusiast PC gamers will want to play at 4k with mininum 60fps l, which adds massively to the gameplay alongside just graphics fidelity.

Honestly, a GTX 1050 is very low end nowadays. I don't game much, but my 2070 Super is really showing its age already.

AI framegen is the new 'big' thing. Not everyone likes it, but the ability to double/triple framerate is appealing, even if it does result in artefacts. The newer cards are needed for that. I wonder if the next gen consoles will look to replicate this?

The 2070 Super would run pretty much anything current absolutely fine. The type of people you're talking about wanting 4k (pointless imo) etc usually suffer from horrible fear of missing out and buy anything because it's new.

Next gen will probably focus on AI image generation and other features more than power, but I'm not sure what will be left in triple A at the current rate by then. They're all ever scaling right back, desperate for a live service style game or being bought. I think we've seen a massive crash this gen, but it's been far slower compared to the 80s one.

I'll wait and see the only rockstar game I've really loved is RDR2

Playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 but its not quite landing right with me.

Heared many saying it it JRPG as BG3 was to WRPG and that sadly feels a massively overblown statement.

Just to add to say its better than Persona and redefinies the genre is just flat out wrong.

2026 is gonna be an epic year.

GTA 6 and not much else, but what a god damn year it will be. I will have 2 years to complete the game to 100% as per my 40 tasks to do prior to hitting the fat age of 40

I feel like even Nintendo have forgotten why Switch 1 was successful. Compared to the rest of the handheld market, the switch 1 was cheap. I doubt even switch 2 will reach the same level of success with its price.

According to its detailed breakdown, boxed software was down 34% year-on-year and digital PC games were down 1.8%, but digital console games were up 3.5% and mobile game spending was up 8.1%.

Console hardware was down a sizeable 24% given slower sales for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S and the Switch entering its eight year, while PC hardware, console accessories and VR were all up year-on-year
Is any of that really surprising?
Boxed software isn't as popular these days because of large installs regardless of owning the disk
Consoles down because....people already own them

PC Games down is the only interesting stat - but is that more to do with releases rather than general spending? 2023 had Hogwarts Legacy and Diablo IV - can't think of anything in 2024 that would've pushed those numbers

The majority of people who wanted one either has one or they've lost them to other devices due to the high prices that are clearly not going down.
Said it before, but I think the push to capture the "core" audience has lead to more powerful machines at a higher price and them losing the general audience somewhat. Meanwhile, the switch is cheaper and here's the results (so far):

Amazing to think that the era Vice City was based on was less old at the time Vice City was made than Vice City is to today...

Also the time gap between GTA 5 and GTA 6 is bigger than the gap between GTA 5 and GTA 3

Mate there's no obligation, charter, contractual or statutory duty, environmental requirement, or any religious crusade that I am aware of, for you to make people feel old.

Tech just isn't going down in price anymore. No idea where this will leave things going forward.
Personally it means holding onto current tech gadgets for longer and making the best of it. Then when looking to replace then look at 2nd hand market, which will also be impacted with higher prices.
