Jonny Wilko - popularity rating

Yoe, In the various sections of the media explosion that was the WC2003, Wilkinson was projected as the man that was winning games almost single-handed. It wasn't the case at all, we were world class in a number of positions and Wilkinson was just one cog in the machine. I don't criticise him in any way for this but it does stick in my mind when thinking about his career. As for the WC itself, I think the performance of our team varied hugely based on when Hill was in and out the side. He is the guy I would single out but again it was a 15 man machine. That is why people would say he was over-rated in that campaign, perhaps not something a person outside the UK would appreciate.

^ well no, of course it wasn't all Wilkinson. Everybody knows England was a 10-man team+Robinson....

But more realistically, Wilko IS the match in certain cases. As in, no Wilko no win. Not nearly a majority of the matches obviously, but this does apply in specific matches.
