Micky Ward and Matt Thompson will play in Newcastle's front row, Mark Sorenson returns at lock and Russell Winter, Brent Wilson come into the back row.

Hall Charlton comes in at scrum-half and Steve Jones plays at fly-half.

Play-off hopefuls Wasps welcome back Pat Barnard after a knee ligament injury and he starts alongside Tim Payne and Joe Ward in the front row.

George Skivington and Richard Birkett start at lock, with James Haskell, John Hart and Tom Rees forming the back row.

Hart will captain the side in place of rested club skipper Lawrence Dallaglio, while a strong bench features Simon Shaw and Joe Worsley.

Wasps dropped out of the play-off places when their run of eight straight wins came to an end against Gloucester on Sunday.

Newcastle have nothing to play for other than pride, but go into the match on the back of a morale-boosting win over Leicester.

The game will mark the final Newcastle home game for England centre Mathew Tait, who has signed a deal to play for Sale next season.

Newcastle: May, Phillips, Tait, Visser, Rudd, Jones, Charlton; Ward, Thompson, Hayman, Perry, Sorenson, Dowson (capt), Wilson, Winter.
Replacements: Vickers, Wilson, Parling, Parling, Williamson, Browne, Young, Miller.
