$onny Bill Bails On The Dogs

This serves to show those that you simply cannot have your cake (conversion from amateurism to professionalism, players being paid, etc) and eat it (enjoy national safeguards preventing players from going abroad to follow the money).

<div class='quotemain'> SBW in the All Blacks? Yeah, not 100% sure it'll be that easy... he's a great player sure, but it'll take a good few seasons to properly learn what he has to do.

Didn't take Jason Robinson that long to learn what he had to do in rugby union, then again Robinson was a fantastic player and played further out in the back-line than what Sonny Bill will.

And it was his second spell in rugby union
And SBW is a forward, not a back...

Didn't stop Andy Farrell...hey, wait a minute...

Well SBW has to have been picked by Toulon for something...

...hey, is he good at brawling do you think? French Clubs like brawlers...no idea why Toulon signed Dan Carter in that regard, he does look like the kid who always got his Mum to write his name on his PE kit.

EDIT: Knowing Dan, he probably came out for PE & Rounders with "DELICIOUS DAN CARTER" sewn on with sequins and rhinestones onto the back of his PE shirt and on his shorts...no wonder his had his head kicked in with a cricket bat.

I hope he does well in Union. I liked seeing him play in League and he's got the dream opportunity to learn Union from some of the best players we've seen He'll be bathed in advise from Umaga, Collins and Greegan.

Gregan has moved to Japan, he has been replaced by the great Matt 'Slugger' Henjak I believe.

On a side note, SBW is still young, there is no reason he cannot have a few years to acquaint himself with the game and go back down south to have a run for the Kiwi teams, good luck to him I say.

Toulon signed Carter?

The nrl should take him all the way to the cleaners
If they don’t, this will set a precedent, and others will backdoor it too
Deadest take him to court â€" if u wanna go , you can go when ur a free agent (off contract)
If ur contracted and u backdoor it â€" prepare for legal battle
It’s a low act
He knows its low â€" otherwise he would have come out and said what he was doing first and foremost
Backdoor antics is admission he is guilty for what he is doing
Stupid carnt â€" fark off, and good riddance â€" I hope u sit on the sidelines for a along time and banned from NRL for life
He wouldn’t have done this if the BULLDOGS were leading or in the TOP 8
What a sore loser
IRB should step up, and also ban him until he seeks a proper release….if he is aloud to do this, contracts in world sport mean nothing â€" which would also impact on the S14 â€" imagine half the comp backdooring it to Europe every 3 years â€" just to come back for the RWC to play for your nation â€" it would be a joke
**** ORF SBW YOU FARKIN CARNT
LOW LIFE INEPT RETARD LISTENING TO HIS UNDER QUALIFIED MANAGER, AND ITS DOING MORE HARM THAN GOOD
WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF ANTHONY MUNDINE â€" YOU ********

No, they didn't, sorry. Working the night shift at 2am means you're quite tired, hence the mistake which I promptly changed to "French Clubs".

My point still stands though as most French clubs like brawling.

The Union cronies will welcome him with arms wide open, there is nothing that can be done now and as the competition they'll just turn a blind eye to it, it is too late...but the time to sort this sh*t out is now so the same situation doesn't happen again or our game will end up being a feeder club to Union...oh wait it allready is.... :(

Jason, and Timana have proven your theory wrong. So have Ryan Cross and Brad Thorn. With the kind of shortage the ABs have, they should get SBW!

Why would IRB help League out after all the poaching that League did in the past. This is karma, very amusing turn of events.

Cross, Jason, Tuqiri and Timana are backs, the conversion isn't as hard for those players and some of them have had a fair bit of Union experience. Thorn has worked generally, but in reality he had a rugby background as well and it still took him a number of season to really get up to standard in Union.
SBW is a fantastic player, but where do you put him? If you put him in the backs you really could only have him playing at center because the wings, full back, and 5/8th positions wouldn't suit him and there's already depth there. Outside center might work, but it's still a very very different role to what he's used to in League, so if he plays there then it'll at least be 2 or 3 seasons before he's going to come into contention with the ABs (and he'd have to prove himself in the S14 as well). Playing in the forwards will be even harder, because it's basically a different game there - he'll have to learn to ruck, scrummage and be effective in line outs and do it at a world class level if he wants to make the there. He could do it, sure, but even if he does we won't be seeing him in an AB jersey any time soon.

Slotting him at centre is a good idea. 12 we don't have depth. Ma'a? Nah.

And as for 13, the more the merrier.

Gus Gould has been stood down from channel nine after his barrage of David Gallop last night on Triple M.

Great, I was so looking forward to Thursdays Footy Show for the next barrage but nooooo, soft c*ck Gallop went crying to mama.

So who is next in line to take Gallop on head to head???.

fark gould he is a disgrace
u cannot go off like that
its unprofessional - he could have handled it better
like all things today gould is just a disgrace like SBW

Man i would chase the money over loyalty any day, good on sbw for moving on.
Obviously, but what a lot of people can't seem to fathom (this group seems to include you) is that he was tied to a legally binding contract that had no get out clause at all. He also had promised to attented multiple charity functions over the next few weeks which he subsequently did not contact about not being able to attend.

Complete, total and utter bastardery. Coward.
