Please explain the Welsh situation

I am unclear about the Welsh situation, being somewhat of a noob. It sounds like a change was made over the last several years that has the Welsh up in arms.

It sounds like they went away from the "regions" and became the Neath Swansea Ospreys, Llanelli Scarlets, Cardiff Blues and Newport Gwent Dragons. But these team still hail from the cities that were part of the prior name. So how is this any different?

Neath Swansea and Llanelli have been dropped from their respective names so they are now known as the Ospreys and Scarlets whilst the Cardiff Blues are called the Blues they are really the Cardiff Blues and the same is true for the Dragons!

There is no real conflict anymore but the fans in the Valleys still argue how come there is no region still there:
