The latter - they never had a chance for this season.
IIRC they've a full new 23 coming in already (mind, they pretty much did for this season too, but that was before Red Bull took over)

ETA: not quite a match-day 23 - they'd need another LHP, and another half-back (preferably 2) to make that

Next season they have some pretty good players coming in, a few from Chiefs like Tuima, Hodge(went early) and Rigg. And others like same Graham, Franco Molina, Hosk8bs Sotutu and Raffi Quirke. Not saying they will be pushing at the top but they will have a pretty good team

Glad I chose to watch Exeter v Saints.

Very enjoyable, but only one remotely competitive game out of 4 so far is disappointing.
