Superliga has unique rules regarding the bonus points:
- only one bonus point can be awarded in a match
- to get the losing bonus, a team has to lose by 7 or less points
- to get the offensive bonus, a team has to score at least 4 tries and at the same time win by 8 points or more

So, the two bonuses are mutually exclusive. In the Timisoara vs Steaua example, Steaua got the defensive bonus.

Interesting rules... thanks for the info

This photo of the CSM Bucharest squad ahead of their first home match against U Cluj this weekend includes Petru Tamba, Otar Turashvili and Vlad Badalicescu. CSM now has a huge squad, too bad many talented players won't get much gametime.

CSM will play their first home match on Arcul de Triumf, we'll see if all their games will be hosted there.

2 unexpected results in the Super Liga last week

CSM Bucharest 22-23 U Cluj
CSM Baia Mare 19-24 Timisoara Saracens
Steaua Bucharest 26-13 Dinamo Bucharest

Great result for Cluj but CSM changed most of their starters from the previous match. Kicking was again a problem, Ralulu missed a few easy shots while Ignea converted a crazy 60m penalty that won Cluj the match eventually.

Great debut for Steaua's 19 year old winger Alex Porojan, who scored two tries in his first Superliga match.

In other news, here's one of the three tries not given to Romania in the 1981 test match in Bucharest vs the All Blacks. Apparently the Scottish referee told Romanian officials after the match that he didn't want his name to be linked to a historical upset.

Results of the rugby championship of Moldova and South Ukraine:
Lupii Albi USEFS (MD) - Academia Odessa (UA) 33-20
Kredo 1963 (UA) - Triumf AM (MD) 115-3 (!)
Politehnik (UA) - Sporting-ASEM (MD) 27-12

Again surprising results in the Super Liga

Dinamo Bucharest 35-33 CSM Baia Mare
U Cluj 13-17 Steaua Bucharest
Timisoara Saracens 12-12 CSM Bucharest

I watched the second half of Timisoara-CSM and enjoyed the game despite the result.
Taavili from CSM is a very powerfull player!
At Timisoara, I liked Fonovai, fast and powerfull, Burcea and his leadership, and fijian prop Saulo, he could play in a big championship IMO

This is a crazy season of the Superliga! Steaua are the unlikely leaders. CSM might eventually become a strong team but they could implode completely as well.

In the meantime, the rugby community in Constanta plans to restart the sport in the city:
- amateur rugby team Rechinii (The Sharks, they play in the national amateur 10s league) want to enter the third division
- youth clubs Cleopatra and Tomitanii also plan to enter the third division with a combined senior squad

Apparently the Arcul the Triumf Stadium will be expanded to about 15000 seats. The FRR has managed to include it in the planning for Euro 2020 competition (football), when it will be used as a training stadium for the football teams then revert to a rugby-only stadium. Also part of the Euro 2020 preparations, the old Regie Stadium (about 10000 seats) could be renovated and become a mixed football-rugby arena afterwards.

Superliga Round 4:
CSM Bucharest - Steaua (April 18, 11.00, TVR2)
Saracens Timisoara - Dinamo (April 18, 13.00, www.rugbytv.ro)
Baia Mare - U Cluj postponed

Baia Mare plays tomorrow against Russian club Enisey STM Krasnoyarsk in the first leg of the Challenge Cup qualification playoffs. The match will kick off at 17.00 and will be live on www.rugbytv.ro.

Baia Mare struggles with a long list of injuries, here's their match squad:
15.Sefton Keeghan, 14.Georgel Cătună, 13.John Leiataua, 12.Cristian Diniș Vârtic, 11.Ionuț Botezatu, 10.George Oprea, 9.Bidzina Shamkaradze, 1.Paul Rusu, 2.Florin Gorun, 3.Silviu Suciu, 4.Ionuț Hristache, 5.Johannes Van Heerden, 6.Kuselo Moyake, 7.Sean Morrell, 8.Constantin Ene-cpt
Reserves: 16.Florin Bârdașu, 17.Mihai Dico, 18.Cătălin Pastramă, 19.Dumani Mtya, 20.Nigel Genia, 21.Michael Wiringi, 22.Alexandru Bucur, 23.Cristian Stoica

Due to injuries, youngsters Suciu and Oprea will start against the Russians.

Bucharest will host a 7s tournament this weekend, with nationals teams of Romania, Moldova and Bulgaria (seniors, U19 and feminine). Here's the senior squad of the Oaks:
Alex Porojan (Steaua)
Catalin Neacsu (Steaua)
Vlad Toma (U Cluj)
Sabin Stratila (Steaua)
Razvan Barbu (Stiinta Petrosani)
Alex Tigla (CSM Bucuresti)
Catalin Prunaru (CSM Bucuresti)
Alexandru Beldean (CSM Bucuresti)
Lucian Muresan (Saracens Timisoara)
Vlad Zaharia (Saracens Timisoara)
Cristian Boboc (RCM Galati)
Nicolae Ion (Dinamo)
Valentin Rosu (U Cluj)
Ionel Melinte (Cleopatra Constanta)
Gabriel Partenie (RCM Galati)
Ionut Mazare (U Cluj)
Cornel Farcas (CSU Arad)

I like this team, a combination of exciting youngsters and some new blood from the second division clubs. It's great that a player from Constanta was included, even with Farul gone, to keep the tradition.

Superliga results today:
Dinamo - CSM Bucharest 19-23
U Cluj - Saracens Timisoara 14-48

Second division:
Stiinta Petrosani - Poli Iasi 3-46
CSU Arad - RC Barlad 3-26
CSM Suceava - CSM Bucuresti U23 34-40
CS Navodari - Steaua U23 20-8

After Baia Mare lost the first match against Enisey-STM (20-30) last week, the second match might not be played at all (it was scheduled for May 2). The Russians have only announced the location of the match (Sochi) on April 21 (they were supposed to do so well in advance of the first match that was played on April 18). With the travel location unknown, Baia Mare officials were unable to apply for Russian visas for the players until then. The Russian embassy in Bucharest told them the visas will be issued only on April 30, just 3 days before the match scheduled on May 2. Without the visas and not knowing if all the players will get one, Baia Mare can't buy the plane tickets and apparently they are sold out already since there are only two Bucharest-Sochi flights, connecting in either Moscow or Istanbul. The club has asked for the match to be postponed but the organisers have refused the request. If Baia Mare can't find another flight option in those 3 days remaining before the match, it will not be played.

According to Baia Mare, the match referees had to be changed as well, since the Welsh brigade initially delegated was denied visas by Russia.

There are often problems with games in Russia, that's a shame  I hope the game will be played!

Dragos03, any news about Andrei Ilie, Ionel Cazan and few other former Farul players?
And the american who signed last year for CSM in order to play for Romania 7's (I can't remember his name) still in Romania?
Thanks

I think Andrei Ilie has signed with Dinamo but didn't play for them yet (might be injured). No news on Cazan, maybe he quit rugby since he had a series of bad injuries lately. Another decent ex-Farul player who seems to be without a club is tighthead Florin Sasu. I suspect some of the fringe former players of Farul could play for Callatis Mangalia in the 3rd division this season.

The Romanian-American at CSM (John Varvara) did play for Romania 7s in some minor tournaments but did not impress. He's back in the USA now.

Baia Mare starting XV to face Enisey, much stronger than the first leg

Baia Mare had to use a charter flight to get to Sochi, since they only got visas three days before the match and regular flights were sold out. The Welsh referees were denied visas by Russia so they were replaced by an Italian brigade led by Giuseppe Vivarini.

I wonder if the Russians plan to use these dirty tactics if they qualify in the Challenge Cup pools.

If you're going to provide proof of his false words, their price will be higher.

Romania does not play in Sochi - bad, Romania plays in Sochi - even worse!

Play and win, if you can, you do not steal the form as it happened to us in Romania in 2007.

You constantly bothers in Russia, the cold, the diarrhea ...

You know about that "Rugby Europe" banned "Yenisei" Krasnoyarsk play so long as you go to fly?

In whose interest was this decision?

Just not in the interest of "Yenisei" ...

Do you think that the referees from Wales to you better than the Italians?

The Russian Embassy in England has deprived Romania wins)))

I do not know who is to blame the Welsh did not get a visa in time.

But tomorrow you will lose anyway.

Get ready to write a protest, it is better than you know how to play rugby)));)

If you're looking for a fight, you've come to the wrong place. This is a rugby forum.

Congratulations to the Russian team for the qualification. If they are as good as you claim, I wonder why they still needed the dirty visa tricks though, maybe this is just the Russian way to do things. Good luck trying that in the pool stages. As for "not inviting Russia to the Nations Cup", you're wrong once more. The teams are invited by World Rugby, not by Romania.
