Rugby as Olimpic game

I don't think the USA would want rugby as an Olympic sport. They're content witht he defending champions tag.

Rugby sevens would be a great idea.

But as a few people have said in this thread, I couldnt give two shits about the olympics, I might watch the old swimming/athletics, but I aint watching this synchrosnised swimming/fencing/gun shooting bullshit.

Sevens is the way to go but arent they trying to reduce the amount of events in the olympics?

Ok just watch shootin' :D
These guys warned me just for entering old trhead I didn't know it was closed
Is that the case with others?
I didn't know
bad I didnot deserve that :rahh:

No they're reducing the amount of shitty uncompetitive games ie baseball and womans softball. Since they're just dominated by 2-3 teams. It would be the same for basketball if it weren't for Athens. They just added BMX riding so, that just shows they're not opposed to new sports. I'd think that golf is probably the next one in line to get into the games, no?

Golf and not rugby?
well I dont know how others think but I think that rugby would be great in Olympic games (doesnt matter Sevens or 15s)
just wait and see what happens
I think golf is not really as dynamic as rugby is

No, nor is it as entertaining but it is more internationally played, more competitve and more watched. Who would more people watch on TV: the gold medal golf tournament or the rugby 7's? If you said 7's you're naive and dilusional. In this day and age, it's all about which sports can increase TV revenue to make the Olympics more profitable. And let's be honest how many teams can win the 7's ***le? NZ, Fiji, then maybe Samoa and a few other teams if they're on fire. That would also be part of the problem.

BMX?!?!?! Thats really disgusting. How is that a sport?!?! Scrap sync swimming, shooting and all these nonsensical events.

1) Theyre not sports

2) They don't have a significant following, so, little money comes in.

Yeah unfortunately golf is more popular than rugby but not only here in Georgia
BMX is the classic X-Games type
wow, could be better if Olympic rugby sevens was established sports species
and 15s too, an additional arena for lowers could be more valuable for them

15s NO.

An Olympic gold medal should be the highest accolade possible for that sport. In rugby, that's the world cup. This is why the idea of Olympic football and tennis is f***ing stupid. Paula Radcliffe's been the greatest female distance runner of the past decade. But she's never won an Olympic Gold Medal. It's her life's dream. Is that an equal achievement to Nigeria (or whoever) U23s winning at football?

Now for 7s, it would be great. But only if all the nations put their best players forward. I'd want to see Shane Williams playing scrum half for a GB & NI team, for example. The Olympics would have to be different from the other 7s tournaments where its youngsters or 15s rejects (even if they do become 7s specialists).

The Olympics are awesome, you can watch any sport during the games and it still seems interesting, thats the best thing about it.

Somebody said that if sevens is to be in the best players should be playing, which I agree with. Sevens is boring, but I reckon it would be awesome if the top guys played it.

I reckon they should do what the soccer (football) does, Under 23's, but make it the Junior World Championship (U20), that way it can still be the pinnacle of achievement for that part of the sport. It could be in place of the World Championship for that year, so for example this year's under 20's which was in Wales (I think it was just in Wales, apologies if it was somewhere else too) could be included in the Olympic Games, but then time it would be back to the usual competition for the next year or whenever it is next held (I'm not sure how often it occurs).

I guess the days of the Olympics being competed for by ametuers are long gone... [/b]

And good ridens too. With the amount of money shelled out to the IOC that the athletes don't see at all, good on 'em for making a few cents on the side in endorsements. If they're on pro contracts, all the better. To compete at the top level in any sport now a days you have to be training like a pro athlete. The only problem is the time it takes, which is why at least in Canada 1/3 of all top end amateur athletes are under the poverty line.

Rugby ini olympic games will be perfect, after all it is also a amazing sport. love to see rugby kiking in the next games!!!

I would love 2 see 7s rugby im sure this would be popular.

Yeah I would like to see Rugby (doen't matter 7s or 15s) in Olympic games
This is amzing sport and will add charm to the Olympics

I think rugby in the olympics would be awesome.
Like have it like soccer in the olympics and the squads are under 24 year olds or something.
I''d definately watch the event.
