RWC 2015: Scotland

A great game from Scotland today, very proud off they're performance. Took they're chances very well and at the end making the most off Italy's mistakes. John Barclay is a monster, That is why he should be in the squad. Al Dickinson deserved man off the match, very very strong scrummaging from him. Russell played really well, His decision's were very good he and Pyrgos is my choice for 9 and 10.

This is a massive confidence booster for next week against France. We can win against Samoa if we play like this.

Certainly you should beat Samoa after their display against the BaaBaas today!

Agree Scotty . Cotter somewhat coy after the game when asked if he had finally decided the squad ! Balance important and a good front row choice essential as it is our potential Achilles in close tussles . Backs looking good and Dunbar has not even run out . The advent of Strauss augurs well ! Good day at the office but a lot of work to do !

Even thinking about it, there are definitely alot off positions in the Scotland team in competition. Fullback is definitely Hogg, Fly-half for me should be Russell. But everywhere else on the pitch there are alot off competition and for me could be anyone's.

Did you see 2 warming-up games between Japan and Uruguay? Do you think Japan could be some threat to Scotland?

I've not seen them, but do think Japan could surprise up if we are playing quite badly. I think Scotland will win if we play like this but Japan do have a strong scrum, Well it improved over the last 3 years or so from what i saw when they played up back in 2013.

Surprised no leaks from the " camp " ! Interesting to see the final pool choice . Reckon Dunbar left it too late to post his fitness and Barclay must be a certainty . Hamilton out and the elder Gray I hope in !
Horne frae Howe must be a banker !

Supposedly Dunbar is with a specialist in London having his fitness assessed. If he is in the squad that might help Lamont vs Visser as he can cover there. Perhaps Vernon will go and teach Burgess how to cover centre and back row ;)

I was told that he went to America to get a specialist. But that was 2 month ago i think.

Seen the following predicted on Twitter:

Backs:
Hildago-Clyne, Laidlaw, Pyrgos, Russell, Jackson, Bennett, Scott, Dunbar, Horne, Hogg, Seymour, Maitland, Lamont, Visser.
Forwards:
Dickinson, Grant, Nel, Reid, Welsh, Brown, Ford, McInally, Harley, J. Gray, R. Gray, Gilchrist, Barclay, Hardie, Cowan, Denton, Strauss

I'd be broadly happy with that (apart from the poaching, but they're being considered for selection by Cotter so is moot). A bit light on centre cover given Dunbar has been out for so long. As Maitland has also been out perhaps Tonks might sneak in for him?

That squad will put a huge smile on my face. wouldn't change anything about if i was Vern Cotter.

Unfortunately he has! Really bizarre squad.

Edit: No Cowan, Harley or Barclay, places for Wilson, Hardie and Stroker.
Swinson in.
Dunbar out, Vernon in.
Jackson out, Weir in.

Swinson's a bit of a surprise, especially given that he was cut from the squad last week, but I'm happy for him. Glad to see the back of Hamilton too. However, Ruaridh Jackson will feel understandably aggrieved, as will Johnny Barclay. Can't see how Strockosh gets in while he doesn't. He hasn't really done anything to deserve the nod. This Hardie better be good too...

Who's sister has Barclay slept with?!
He's a brilliant player and we're really doing ourselves down without him.

In terms of backs I'm quite pleased. Jackson has always shown himself to be a middle of the road fly half which is EXACTLY what we needed when the rest of our backs misfired. Now we have some exciting centres and wings I'd prefer Weir who, despite looking like a prop, constantly comes out with exciting little offloads, chips and breaks. Really feel for Dunbar not getting a spot though.

Nice back selection for Scotland, strength at second row as well. Reaching the quarter-finals after a dismal 6 Nations would be a great performance on their part this time around, but I think that, as long as Cotter stays put, this young squad could become seriously dangerous in years to come.

Just what do Barclay need to do to get in ?. He's been brilliant against Italy. He was one off our star players and he doesn't get in.

But i'm not to pleased with the squad to be honest. Rob Harley over Swinson. Barclay or Cowan over Strokosch. The rest i'm happy about.

I'm furious that Barclay has missed out to Hardie. I honestly do think that's a bloody disgrace. I know there are always decisions with every country that fans find unpopular or confusing but Barclay missing out just makes no sense whatsoever. More annoyingly is that Cotter will never come out and explain his decision.

Also not happy that Harley is missing out, especially to Swinson. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Tim Swinson fan but I don't see how he is deserving of a spot over Harley. I also think that Jackson could consider himself unlucky to miss out, especially given he could cover at full back. Obviously the argument there is that Lamont and Maitland can also cover at full back, and no doubt will for certain games, but Maitland hasn't yet proven his fitness/sharpness in any warm up games.

Very sorry to see Dunbar miss out through injury though I look forward to him hopefully coming back and fighting for a spot on the Lions tour 2017.

Not happy to see Barclay miss out but i don't mind seeing Hardie there. He's a strong tackler, even though i'll pick Barclay over Hardie but i'd don't mind seeing Hardie there.

So you don't have Cowan, who was possibly the most dangerous guy over the ball in the 6 nations. Barclay isn't any worse over the ball and probably has a bit more too him and he isn't selected ? I don't know Hardie or Wilson that well are they jackal type 7s ?
