[RWC2019][The Final] England vs. South Africa (02/11/2019)

I genuinely thought he'd retired,
It's crazy he's still involved now - surely there's someone better? Even in his prime all he was was a ball of bulk and long distance drop goals.
If you think of the kick tennis era he epitomised everything about it.

He's keeping the Os Du Randt tradition alive.

Os Du Randt WC winner 1995 & 2007 (12 years apart)
Frans Steyn WC winner 2007...

Reading, listening to and watching the English media is interesting. The way they are going on you would think that this England team is the greatest ever and not 1 South African would get near the England Team.

The English media are building this up to be a walk in the park for the English.

If they are wrong there will be some egg on faces.

And I bet you'll find similar things in the SA media you just aren't aware of it being in the UK.

If Kevin Pietersen, Brad Barritt & Mouritz Botha can, then anyone can...

Wales Online must be sitting on thrones of eggs, with eggs for faces, in a building made of eggs then :D

Which media anyway? SA probably doing the same? I don't think our Media is going to put out 'England are rubbish' headlines are they, and any media I've read has been quite praising for SA, but they've been praising England, because, well, we've played some great Rugby.

Or it's likely you're looking at ways to get bites... In that case, you did well :)

This was a fun little exercise

Cunderhill haven't been forged in the fires the Holy Trinity have been yet but they could displace Hill and Back in future years. Hard toss up between Greenwood and Farrell but I don't think Farrell would compliment Wilkinson who has has to be picked cause reasons.

The idea Robinson/May wings well....

Only thing I'd like to do is put Watson as FB but as he doesn't play their currently it has to be Lewsey

Well, not really. Jeremy Guscott is part of our WC panel, that also includes Schalk Burger, Jean De Villiers, Breyton Paulse, Victor Matfield and John Smit. Guscott and Burger has been the "neutralisers" in that they regularly point out areas where England are very good at on the field, and maybe superior to the bokke.

It's not that our guys are saying that one team is superior than the other, they are more focused on the match-ups and where they think which team will try to exploit the other one.

Plus it's more about the "Gees" we are trying to get going. You should see the streets in town. Everybody is wearing green. There's SA flags everywhere. People have flags and banners on their cars.

The Dept. of Sport Arts and Culture also notified us that at 13:00 today they'll have some sort of entourage in the streets and people should join in so that we sing the National anthem together and catch some "gees".

I don't know for certain but in terms of our panel it'll be Woodward (useless), Wilko (correct but boring) and I suspect Pienaar as the lonely SA voice but he's usually quite measured and good at providing the same sort of role as I imagine Guscott is.

And I bet you'll find similar things in the SA media you just aren't aware of it being in the UK.

Lol no. We are quietly confident, but everyone completely admits it's heart over head, we are underdogs. What's dominating our media is uniting the nation, and the journey of Siya Kolisi to this moment, and what it means to the majority. You won't read anything saying the SA team are better or will walk it.

See, I like that. We get a bit geed up for the Football WC, but not the same in the Rugby. I mean, all the pubs are open for the games at 9am, and its obviously all over the news etc, but it's not like flags on cars and footballs coming home etc...

I couldn't tell you if everyone is wearing white tho, the weather is wet and cold so we're all wearing coats :D

I think that similar but different to how the UK media are from what I've seen. Don't think anyone is suggesting we'll walk it. Just confidence that will naturally come after a complete performance like last weekend.

Talking to rugby fans here, we are confident we'll win (why would either nation be different), we do think man for man we are better but there are places we'd take the SA player.

I think we had our heart over head match last week. Everyone I spoke to expected to lose, felt we could win but ultimately we'd fall short. Now we know how we can play we know if that England turns up we'll be incredibly difficult to stop.

There certainly no talk of destiny or it'll be a walkover.

My brother actually found one journalist/ World Cup winner that said that:

“If you could choose a combined XV from England and South Africa at this World Cup, you would choose all England players.”

We've mentioned this previously Matt Dawson is in the Stephen Jones area of rugby punditry - best ignored.
