SA Rugby to host national coaches’ indaba

A national coaches' indaba will be convened from 19 to 21 October in Cape Town, SA Rugby announced on Tuesday. [FONT=&amp]The special gathering will consist of the national coaches, SA Rugby's Rugby Department and High Performance Rugby Committee, all the local Vodacom Super Rugby franchise coaches and conditioning coaches, as well as a number of invited rugby specialists.[/FONT]

This thread is for all discussions related to the indaba, pre and post. It will be interesting to discuss what has come out of all that. The November tests which will be around the corner, will almost certainly be on the agenda.

I would love to be a fly on the wall of this indaba. I hope that a lashing is what they start off with. How do you go from a 8-point win over the Wallabies to a 42-point loss the next week, with only 2 injuries to the team??

I hope, that the politics stay out of this indaba. And that our Sports Minister doesn't get invited. John Mitchell, Nick Mallett, John Plumtree and Heyneke Meyer should also go to this indaba, and share their oodles of knowledge and experience.

But honestly, I can't see how this indaba is going to save us.

I've been thinking this morning. Central contracting might be accepted as the way forward.

It has been the call from various parties for the past 5 years now. But I doubt it will happen overnight. I think it will be gradually implemented if it becomes part of our system, as many players currently have valid contracts with unions, some even signed up to end of 2022

I read on News 24 today, that one of the things they're going to discuss, is 'alignment within South African rugby'.

Does this mean a convergence of styles played around the country with a 'standard operating procedure' relating to player conditioning and training.

I know Brendon Venter is facilitating the pow-wow, but as TRF Heineken points out, John Mitchell, Nick Mallett, John Plumtree and Heyneke Meyer should also be there. I'd include Naas Botha. I know he's not a coach, but I think his understanding of the game and what's required to help South African rugby, ergo Springbok rugby back on track, makes him a demigod in rugby circles.

I just hope they speak frankly and are able to present a unanimous workable solution to SARU... and most importantly that SARU actually listen to them..

I'm interested in seeing who of the old players will be there. Hopefully a guy like Corne Krige will go and tell things as it is, as he's not one to shy away from how he really feels.

Yeah I don't Mbalula there, he's part of the reason why we are in this mess. And also, what possible good will he be at the indaba. he knows nothing about rugby!!

Or will he just be there to sing Robbie Wessels song about him "Bokke gaan moer hulle, Bokke gaan Bliksem hulle".

The only reason I can think of why someone would want Mbalula there is to force him to listen to everyone at the indaba. If he actually listened to the logical reasoning of some of the people at the indaba, he might pull his head out of his own ***.

But all this is wishful thinking and I can't see him ever changing.

Business Day's article on Duane Vermeulen states that Duane was criticizing the Sports Minister too and that the problem is at the top, as in the ministry and SARU.

But seems like the BD's article was removed, and now Sport24 has a watered down article not mentioning everything Duane said.
