The Sharks have lost scrumhalf Conrad Hoffmann for the rest of the Super Rugby season after he injured his elbow against the Waratahs.

The injury has the Sharks staring down the barrel of a scrum half crisis going into the most crucial phase of the Super Rugby season.

Hoffman is expected to be out of rugby for three months and Sharks coach John Plumtree says the Sharks are considering calling up Pumas scrumhalf Tiaan Meyer.

Another option for the Sharks is to call up Ross Cronje who played for the Sharks XV in lower level rugby.

"Conrad will see a specialist on Tuesday and there is a possibility that he will have to undergo surgery," Sharks team doctor Ewoudt van der Linde told Sport24.

Charl McLeod will start this week's match against the Cheetahs but if he is injured the Sharks will have no one at Super Rugby level experience.

This is sad. This is going to cost us the play offs. I'd say, call up Ross Cronje

Don't worry, you're not as hard up as the Stormers yet; having to play an off-the-pace Januarie and 4rth choice rookie Coleman in the first XV with schoolboy Schreuder and PdV's love child the mercurial (going from awful to bad) Earl Rose on the bench.

Injuries to halves;
Peter Grant
Gary van Aswegen
Lionel Cronje
Dewald Duvenhage

The problem with us is that the wrong scrum half gets injured.

I wonder what the problem is with McLeod. I mean last yaer he just couldn't do a thing wrong and this year he seems off the boil and for every good thing he does, he goes and ruins it in the next play. That said, I'd still have him over Januarie... er.. yeah, I would. At least there is no danger of your backline falling asleep waiting for the ball to come out with McLeod.

Not just the Sharks , scrummies are droppping like flies all over SA rugby , Bulls , Stormers has been hot hard as well and Ruan Pienaar is not coming home it seems ! Worrying times

Worrying times indeed, but maybe we should give young talent a chance in the Currie Cup this year. Tiaan Meyer, Ross Cronje, Ruan Snyman, Kobus Reinach and we still have Francois Hougaard

Don't understand why some people are calling it a crisis

I don't know what its exact definition is, but surely it is an event that occurs which has an adverse effect, and their are no out-lined plans in place to correct the problem?
We only have two scrum-halfs atm, but plans have always been in place in the event one of them gets injured, or even both.

On second thought, I suppose leaving McLeod alone unchallenged is a crisis in itself :(

How likely is it they will call up Ross Cronje? I watched him in '09 in the CC and it's weird how he has not moved on to Super Rugby yet

I dont see why we cannot just take Kockit back. He is doing nothing at the Lions and is benhcwarming. Get Kocket back and the Pienaar back also. No crisis!

Lamby needs a experience scrummie inside of him to get enough gametime so that he can be better come wordl cup. He isnt ready just yet.

Maybe Kockott doesn't want to come back. He made the decision to move. Lambie is ready for the World Cup. If he gets some game-time in the Tri Nations, we can see what he can do with Pienaar/du Preez in front of him

Yeah if Lambie doesn' get 3 games in the 3N then I give up. We know what Steyn brings to the table but Lambie is probably our best shot for back-up and we need to give him that opportunity. I wouldn't be surprised to see PdV go the Butch James route though.

How much would you bet Plumtree will play Lambie at scrum half?
Come on Ruan, come back home!
