The Sharks have lost scrumhalf Conrad Hoffmann for the rest of the Super Rugby season after he injured his elbow against the Waratahs.
The injury has the Sharks staring down the barrel of a scrum half crisis going into the most crucial phase of the Super Rugby season.
Hoffman is expected to be out of rugby for three months and Sharks coach John Plumtree says the Sharks are considering calling up Pumas scrumhalf Tiaan Meyer.
Another option for the Sharks is to call up Ross Cronje who played for the Sharks XV in lower level rugby.
"Conrad will see a specialist on Tuesday and there is a possibility that he will have to undergo surgery," Sharks team doctor Ewoudt van der Linde told Sport24.
Charl McLeod will start this week's match against the Cheetahs but if he is injured the Sharks will have no one at Super Rugby level experience.

This is sad. This is going to cost us the play offs. I'd say, call up Ross Cronje
