Andrew Sheridan's potential move to French rugby remains on course despite reports that Toulon have ended their interest in the England prop.

The Sale forward, 31, is out of contract at Edgeley Park in the summer and has been linked with a move to Toulon to join Jonny Wilkinson under the stewardship of former Sharks coach Philippe Saint-Andre.

Recent reports suggested that wage demands of around £330,000 a year had put off Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal. But Sheridan's agent insisted that a number of French clubs remain interested in the England international and he has not ruled out a transfer to Toulon.

Mike Burton responded to reports of Toulon cooling their interest by telling the Daily Mail: "I'm surprised to hear that. I've had courteous discussions with Philippe Saint-Andre and given him plenty of time to come back with an answer. But there are other clubs in France who are interested in Andrew."

Toulon recently secured Wilkinson on a two-year contract extension, reportedly worth £650,000 per year, and have significant financial clout. But they seem unwilling to break the bank to sign the Sale forward.

Toulouse, Stade Francais and Perpignan are also said to be considering a move for Sheridan, who could be swayed by the extra earning potential and the lifestyle in the South of France. He has yet to rule out staying with Sale but the Sharks are limited by the salary cap and any deal could stretch the Sharks financially, especially with the club looking to secure the long-term future of Charlie Hodgson.

Burton added: "We have to make arrangements by February and there may be a desire to stay there now."

Greedy b*stard!
Says something when one of the richest clubs says you're asking for too much =P

Totally agree with you, how will the extra 20/30 k or whatever the sum he is squabbling over make that much of a difference to the huge salary a club like Toulon are likely to offer, it does just come down to greediness.

tbh he isn't worth that much, coming to the end of his career and not any sort of prospect. He probably thinks someone can make him a better offer.

Got to agree with you. He is way over-rated. He always seems to be injured and when he isn't he only has a good game in every 20 when hes really pumped up, at least for England anyway. I recall him playing really well a few years back in the Autumn series against the All Blacks when England were putting them under alot of pressure, that apart I haven't really seen him play very well, at least not that I can remember
