The Movie Thread

I finished watching the latest version of "Hairspray". Some of the lines in that film were positively ridiculous ("Wow! Being invited places by colored people! It feels so hip!",) the talent displayed by the actors wasn't divided equally among them, the plot was at times ludicrous, and of course it's a musical, but it was still rather enjoyable. It's a big distraction in more then one way to see Travolta as a fat lady, but it's never used as a way to generate cheap laughs from the audience (I'm thinking Big Momma's House and probably Norbit now).

It's not one I'd buy on DVD, but it's perfect to watch on an evening when you don't want to have anything on your mind.

Watched National Treasure last night for some reason it just seems better when it's on tv instead of watching it on DVD. Still a good movie if you like mysteries, riddles and that kind of stuff and part 2 is pretty good too.

Watched Hot Rod again last night.

One of the funniest and most underrated comedies of all time!
Not quite as good as Anchorman, of course, but it's still f***ing hillarious!

I watched a rather interesting film last night. I can't remember what it was called, but I know it featured a young (and very attractive) lady named Liz Vicious plus 2 of her very attractive friends.

I only watched it for 10 minutes though.

Watched Max Payne. Game to Movie FAIL. Mark Whalberg was so wrong for the part.

I also watched a movie called A Few Good Men. Starring Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise and Demi Moore. What a fantastic movie.

Saw Max Payne last week. It was relatively cool, but at the same time it wasn't all that brilliant at all. Minor fail.

Yesterday I caught Burn After Reading. Nothing really happened, but it somehow did (if that makes sense), but it was great!

Now I'm hanging out to see Guy Ritchie's RockNRolla (Hopefully its atleast half as good as Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch)

That for me sums up an entire series of lost.
Always got love for that show!

Lost completely wooshed by me ^o)
As did Heroes, Prison Break and most reality TV shows.

I saw an incredibly stupid and predictable film yesterday, starring Brendan Fraser and Shirley McLaine, enjoyed it quite a lot XD

Just seen Quantum of Solace and well its good, extremely good... not as good as Casino Royale IMO, and also not the best Bond Film ever.. without giving too much away, the trailer shows the first 10 mins of the film, so they haven't ruined it by showing the trailer every 5 mins...

If you like Bond go see this, if you like Casino Royale go see this..

Watched Saw 5 last night and it still doesn't flippin end properly no doubt there'll be a part 6 coming out sometime next year. If you haven't seen any of the previous Saw movies than it obviously won't be for you because it's a confusing story as always.

Saw Quantum Of Solace last.
Good film, enjoyable, but doesn't compare to Casino Royale.

Watched Taken the other day and I thought it was awesome because it's one of those movies when the main character does everything you'd want him to do and he takes no crap from anyone. Liam Neeson is a great actor and he is still as agile as he's ever been. I give it a 8/10 good storyline top notch acting and made me want to be the character lol.

Also watched Death Race and it's a bit of a mix between Condemned and Mad Max because it's a bunch of people being broadcasted over the internet racing against eachother but to the death in old rugged cars souped with weapons and shields and crap. Didn't really think much of it but it was still entertaining but not a movie to remember. I'd probably only give it a 5/10

Watched 13 Going On 30 turned it off after 15 minutes, awful.

School Of Rock - nothing special.

Wendell Baker Story - really bloody strange story. Quite funny and humorous, and i know Luke Wilson likes penning his own flick so with no real direction to the plot you get the feeling that maybe this was one of his earlier attempts.
Didn't turn it off tho so it wasn't that bad.

Burn After Reading. Fantastic. Classic Coen brothers. Up there with Big Lebowski for 'Best Meaningless "lolwut?" film of all time' award.

Ghost Town. Average movie. Would be **** without Ricky Gervais, and to a lesser extent Greg Kinnear.

Saw Quantum of Solace, there were SO many things that irritated me about that film, though I'll admit that it's a good action film. I wouldn't kniow if I'd stretch it as far as saying it's a Bond-film, but that's a completely different thing.

I wish they'd stop using a shaky hand-held camera to film all action scenes though, it gives me a serious head ache. Revealed one of the advantages of having a blond Bond, at least by watching the person's hair colour you could determine who was shooting who.

That's the thing.
Bond stopped being a Bond film at Casino Royale, some people dislike it. I, like it very much.

However, for quantum of solace they enlisted the works of a shitty director.
The man seriously didn't know where to point the camera. During all the action, instead of moving the camera back from Extreme closeups and stop with cutting to different perspectives every other seconds he decides that the audience he's trying to appeal to doesn't want to think about the film. They want a Bourne style film only without the clarity of good direction, they want lots of fights only without the wherewithal of who is fighting and they want lots of explosions, but no dictation of any real point of it all...maybe an excuse to use the stuntman again.
One of the worst pieces of direction i've witnessed in a long time.

I saw ROCKNROLLA at the movies last night. Relatively good, but Guy Ritchie tried to make it too much like Snatch and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Whether or not this was the intended purpose, I don't know, but what I do know is that this third installment isn't of the same calibre of the other two. The characters are menacing and interesting but don't quite have the "X Factor" of the previous movies' ones.

All in all, in every facet of the film, RockNRolla is a 3/4 movie. Its 3/4 of what its supposed to be. That final 1/4 means a lot too.

In terms of movie viewing at home I saw The Dark Knight and Tropic Thunder.

Seeing as though Harvery Two face came to existance, I'm guessing there's another movie in the woodwork?
Heath Ledger was brilliant! Its a shame the movie didn't have a higher restrictive rating because if the Joker partook in more graphic violence for the audience to see, I think he'd certainly go down as one of the most menacing characters of all time.

Tropic Thunder certainly had it's hilarious moments, but its potential to become a cult film has failed...thats my take on it anyway.

Sometime next year? My bet would be Halloween next year. Just a wild guess though :p

Watched quantum of solace last night, and just thought "meh" after it.
It was ok.
The storyline was too vague and things didn't add up imo. Like that burn on the bond girl's back. The whole film I'm wondering WTF is that siff looking rash doing there, and right at the end you can kind of piece together that she got burnt in a house fire.
Also the they got attacked in the plane.. Why? And who was shooting at them?
And that old dude that he throws in the rubbish bin. Who beat him up and threw him into the Land Rovers boot?
Maybe I was day dreaming too much but it just seemed convoluted at times.

Seriously, warn for spoilers :p
Matthis was last seen with a supposed friend of his, chief of police or something, who is later seen accepting pay from the bad guy. So he thought he could trust the police guy, which wasn't exactly the case. This is why Bond says 'we had a mutual friend' or something like that before killing the chief of police in the hotel.
