Some good Alt. Rock bands That I've been into recently are:

Institute - released thier debut album distort yourself at the end of last year. It has a grunge ish sound. Features the lead singer from Bush and Guitarist from Helmet.
THey're good, I'm biased though as a Bush fan...

For the fans of Demon Hunter you guys should try:

American Headcharge

They're good too, especially the singles Just So You Know (from 1st album) and Loyalty (from 2nd).

Though some 'emo' bands are OK. I really like Motion City Soundtrack, but they're more upbeat and a bit happier. I've seen them live and they are really energetic on stage and it rubs off on the crowd.
Motion City Soundtrack are one of the least emo like bands I've heard called emo.

Although I don't understand what emo is, because I listen to stuff that apparently is, but have no desire to dress in black or cut myself.
