Transfers 2013/14

Jerome Thion, as has been expected, has retired due to injury although he would have like to continue to play on at Biarritz but no contract was forthcoming......"had other offers but loyal to BO and the region". Good luck to you Jerome!

Yannick Jauzion also retires despite offers from other clubs......

I advocated McIntosh and Ring for the Dragons three years ago.
Gutted that the Blues messed Hill around. They had some bright second row prospects, but I suppose James Down and Lou Reed were just too awesome to drop.
Trevett gets to go see his dad over at LW, so good on him.

Good to see Screech moving to the Dragons, hopefully we'll see him develop a little there.

Cory Hill was a good prospect imo, surprised no-one wanted to take him on.

Hopefully we'll see a third young second row Macauley Cook get gametime this season at the Blues ahead of Down/Reed.

Completely missed Screech! Great move, I wanted it over a year ago. Say what you want, but he will get guaranteed game time.

CIPRIANI SIGNS FOR BIARRITZ

There is no question of England star Danny Cipriani, but his namesake Giovanni Cipriani, a young Italian player, who will join the Biarritz Olympique .

Also fly half, the 19-year (1.72 m to 81 kg), who played eight games in the Italian championship last season in the jersey of Viadana , will join, in the coming weeks, BOPB as reported by the website RugbyMercato.it .

Well played sir, well played. Anyway, Danny Cipriani could do all right in Biarritz, a town where no partying takes place and all that..................

Rugby World twitter fees confirms Nick Kennedy to Quins, presumably replacing Oli Kohn. Good move.

Sosene Anesi is the first former All Blacks player in the Romanian league, as he has signed with RCM Timisoara. The Romanian Superliga is set to restart this weekend, some other foreign players that have joined Romanian clubs during the summer break are Welsh prop Sam Hobbs (ex Cardiff Blues), Ben Toft (ex Doncaster), Georgian Mamuka Ninidze (2 caps), Australian centre Nathan Joel Eyres (ex Queensland Reds) or NZ centre Ben Tuiatua.

Wasps have signed a couple of Tongans:

William Helu(Centre, Timisoara) >>>> London Wasps
Taione Vea (Prop, North Harbour) >>>London Wasps

Can't really see us doing any better than 6th again this year, sadly. It's classic Wasps routine really and it goes like this:

1) Recognize the need for more strength in depth + bigger squad because you fade as the season goes on.
2) Make a few promising strength signings (E.g Mullan, Myall)
3) Start to lose a few key/promising players/leaders (E.g Wentzel, Vunipola, Wallace, Jones, Robinson)
4) Don't bother to replace them/replace them with championship level 'punts' on the cheap (e.g Pitman, Thompson, Basset)
5) Find that you're squad is now weaker than before... hooray!

Helu is a good player, played for us before Timisoara. Can play wing and at at push full-back too. Has the typical Tongan elements, strong runner, solid tackler.

That's good to hear - I imagine then that the choice to move to a lesser club(well, Timisoara are, surely?) was personal, and not that he wasn't offered another contract...? Because that would be less promising from a wasps point of view... :p

Yeah, was for personal reasons, if I remember rightly he was homesick and I think a member of his family was ill at the time. On the flipside though I don't think he'd return if he thought it would be an issue again.
