Transfers Rumours

True, but if you look at that quins back row, we are gonna have to get more young players in at some point soon... We can maintain for a couple more years but we are gonna need to strengthen youth long term...

First Choice - Robshaw (31) Luamanu (29) Clifford (25)

Second Choice - Chisholm (22) Bothma (28) Wallace (27)

Most are late 20s... not exactly building for the future

I don’t think Luamanu is anywhere near first choice. Chisholm and Bothma are ahead of him, they’ve just been unavailable.

I agree we need to plan for the future (which is why I’d be targeting Lewis Ludlam if Saints continue to ignore him) but John Hardie is an ideal signing IMO. He’s available. He’s a test class player who probably won’t be selected. He’s an upgrade on Wallace and at 30 he’s hardly over the hill. He’s also got a point to prove after his ban which hopefully means he’d be motivated to perform to a standard where he could have an outside chance of being recalled by Scotland.

Also, when it comes to high potential young players, it’s very rare teams let them go unless they’re relegated. See the current raid on London Irish’s best youngsters.

Disagree on Luamanu, personally a big fan apart from when he kept getting sent off one season. I just don't like Hardie either tbh which is why I'm against it. Is this an actual rumour btw, or just something people want to happen?

Why would Porter go to Sale now? He’s in the box seat to go to the World Cup as Furlong’s understudy and is clearly rated by Leinster.

Not a rumour. Just a suggestion.

I think you are genuinely the only Quins fan I’ve encountered that would prefer Luamanu to Chisholm or Bothma. He’s not as bad as some make out, but the other two are significantly better IMO.

Not over chisholm as a player, but he has always looked better as a 6 imo. Bothma just hasn't played enough for me to rate him over Luamanu unfortunately. Luamanu provides by far the better carrying option

I disagree. I actually don’t think Luamanu carries that well for his size.

He’s slow and takes the ball into contact pretty much every time. For a guy schooled in NZ rugby, he doesn’t have much awareness of space or an offloading game to speak of. His clear-outs can be good but he’s too slow to keep up with the guys making the breaks.

That sounds like I hate him. I don’t. He’s one of the few players we have that can actually dominate the contact area in defence. Chis and Bothma are much better rounded players, but I agree both are better at 6.

I’d far rather have Clifford at 8 when fit.

Anyway ... debating Luamanu is not really for the transfer thread.

Irish Tighthead + Sale = Match made in heaven!
