On all this I would still question Russia wanting to stop the conflict. It's currently making a pretty large (by this wars standards) gain in the Donbass and it's whole war economy seems to be quite resilient. Witcoff has been going to Moscow for months without any results (although his expertise is real estate not global politics) it's only been the threat of secondary sanctions that's made them agree to meet and the war is still very much raging.
Russia is getting treated like a big player by America and that's only going to embolden them. Don't forget they chose to start this completely pointless war and it feels like they are getting rewarded for it which doesn't do much for European or global security. We have been here before in 1914 and 1939 and it didn't end well for anyone.
