Waratahs vs Highlanders

The Highlanders will be hoping that they have found a way to play for 80 minutes this week having lost at the death in both of their matches so far this season.

In their opening match against the Brumbies a late drop goal made them lose the match and last week against the Hurricanes a couple of tries saw them lose for the second time.

3.00: The Waratahs get the first penalty so they kick for the line but fail to find touch.

7.00: The Highlanders get the first points of the match as Daniel Bowden kicks a penalty.

10.00: The Waratahs run the ball wide and score a try in the corner but they are called back for offside.

15.00: Another penalty is awarded to the Highlanders so Daniel Bowden take another shot at goal and slots it.

15.00: Great confidence play from the Highlanders sees a couple of line breaks but eventually the Waratahs defence stops them.

16.00: Burgess has a break which makes the crowd erupt. He is however stopped.

19.00: The Waratahs get some good field position but the Highlanders retain possession at the line out. They clear the ball which results in a Waratahs lineout.

20.00: The Tahs win the line out and swing it out to the line but a grubber kick ends the movement.

23.00: The Waratahs win a scrum and Kurtley Beale puts in a grubber kick for Lote Tuqiri who darts through the defence and scores the Waratahs first try.

24.00: Kurtley Beale slots the conversion to take the lead.

27.00: Penalty to the Highlanders after a Benn Robinson infringement.

27.00: Daniel Bowden slots the penalty to take the lead back.

31.00: The Waratahs are awarded a penalty so Kurtley Beale takes the shot and slots it.

34.00: Phil Waugh who is celebrating his 100th Super Rugby cap today gets a reminder of the toughness of rugby as he gest tackeld and his face gets buried in the grass.

38.00: Johnny Leota shows how dangerous he can be shoving off Kurtley Beale. Tom Carter thjough ends his run with a strong tackle.

39.00: Highlanders line out, they swing the ball wide and on 40.07 the siren goes. The Waratahs steal it and keep the ball alive and Sam Norton-Knight makes a break and the ball gets passed to Ben Mowen who shows some pace to get to the line and scores.

Kutley Beale takes the conversion and slots it from the corner. Half time.

41.00: The Waratahs start strongly putting together 10 phases as Wycliff Palu powers over for the try.

42.00: Kurtley Beale slots the conversion.

49.00: The Highlanders enjoyed a good spell of fluid play stretching the Waratahs defence to score a try through Jason Shoemark.

51.00: Daniel Bowden slots the conversion.

55.00: The Highlanders give a away a penalty for a scrum offence so Kurtley Beale takes the penalty kick and extends the lead.

60.00; The Highlanders get some good ball and phase work. Hayden Triggs does some good work on the wing but the Waratahs defence holds strong.

61.00: Breet Sheehan comes on for Luke Burgess. Timana Tahu moves to outside centre.

65.00: Both sides start to play boot ping pong kicking backwards and forwards. Brett Sheehan gets the ball and knocks on.

66.00: Ben Mowen comes off and Chris Thomson comes on.

68.00: The Waratahs get a warning for early engaging at the scrum.

72.00: A mad chase sees Ben Smith open in space chasing the ball but a Waratahs gets back in time to prevent a try.

72.00:The Waratahs are still looking for that bonus point try as Johnny Leota limps off.

75.00: The Waratahs set up a lineout in the Highlanders 25, They win the ball and run it wide, Palu gets the ball on the wing but is just shoved into touch.

78.00: The Waratahs put some pressure on the Highlanders line as they still need the fourth try. A midfield ball fumble catches every one off gaurd and Sheehan stops and then darts for the line for the bonus point try.

79.00:Daniel Halangahu converts the try.

80.11: The siren goes for full time but we still have time for ascrum.
