Excerpts from Rassie Erasmus' press conference:

Little to comment on really. I'm sad to see Watson go to play for Bath, but I'm also solaced to hear him hold WP in such a very high regard. As for Schalla, well it'll be rather interesting to see him roam around the park as eightman. The positional switch described in the news article makes sense to me -- this is the way teams are set up in Argentina -- but we will have to see. With Habana and Fourie settling in (although the deal that might bring this into fruition is yet to be finalised), the Stormers are looking astonishingly stronger for the '10 campaign. Let us hope everything will work in our favour.

You know, reading that I'm astonished at the amount of **** Province had to deal with this year, I had forgotten how many players we lost, but with Habana and Fourie (HOPEFULLY) now coming to the cape, I think 2010 is going to be a -very- good year for Province, I'm just incredibly chuffed with the season we had, Province actually laid a real claim to the currie cup for the first time in about 8 years, it's been too long since we've been this dependable and consistent, here's hoping losing Watson (who I do believe is an excellent player and captain, no matter what his off the field antics were) doesn't affect us too much.

Heard on the radio this morning that Fourie is now a free-agent and he said that he really wants to play for WP and the Stormers so I guess one can say he is as good as our's...

It's already agreed, Fourie is a WP player as of 1 November.

Bobo and Mujati leaving is no trainsmash for the 2010 season. Brits heading overseas is a godsend as te man got himself isolated, ran ball up that should have gone wide or made knock-ons more often than not. de Villiers and Watson will be missed although I am tempted to put Watson in the same category as Brits WRT to hogging ball. And this is blasphemy, I know, but de Villiers hasn't set the world alight as well.

    fornt row:
Blaauw and Harris have proved themselves a good scrumming unit (with Liebenberg) but apart from these two we are left with serious suspect props IMO. In the absence of talent coming through the ranks I would consider trying to get BJ Botha to come to the Cape (although it seems too late now) or get WP Nel back. Seriously, do we let thee guys slip through our fingers or do they get made elsewhere? Janro van Niekerk from the Boland is better than JD Moller and should be on the bench if we can't get any props elsewhere. Liebenberg is class but again depth is an issue.

We have great locks between van Zyl, Bekker and Fondse for 2010. Steenkamp if anyone gets injured is also solid enough to cover.

    back row:
We have depth in the Loose forwards and have replacements for Watson. Not too sure why Burger is playing 8 when Vermeulen played better ay 8 for the Cheetahs than at flank for the WP IMO and there is always Nick Koster who should never have shifted away from 8 in the first place. Here the line-up is my concern as I am not too sure about Burger at 8. He had a solid enough game at 8 for the Baabaas but personaally I would have liked to see a line-up of 6 Louw, 7 Burger and 8 Vermeulen with Koster on the bench.

This is my main area of concern. At scrumhalf Duvenhage is good but if he should get injured... There is always Januarie but the guy is way off his game. Hofman can cover but he remains a question mark. At 10 there is Grant who is a good attacking fly-half but he is not the type of player you want if the need is to adapt or control a game. de Waal on the other hand is getting old while Hofman agian is an unknown.

Fourie coming in makes up for JdV and Bobo leaving. de Jongh and Fourie should be an exciting combination. Whatever happened to Morgan Newman? I always thought him a classy center if only at Currie cup and maybe S14 level. Apart from Welsch who is a solid enough player we might struggle for depth in this position and the S14 with the Currie cup to boot is a long season of rugby not to have depth. Danre Gerber playing his trade at Boland hasn't had a lot of game time and his father's rep shouldn't be anything to go by.

At wing Habana is a huge signing and him and Aplon should be the favoured wingers with Chavanga leaving (unfortunately). WP should have done all they could to keep Chavanga in the Cape the least of which should have been dumping the fat Fijian like the bag of potatoes he is and not selecting guys like Welsh and Koster on the wing out of position. Crazy that IMO. If Jantjes should return to the fold and form Pietersen is a good option at wing a well. The young guys are JJ Engelbrecht, Dane Johnson and Chris Juries, brother of 7s star Fabiab Juries.

Pietersen made the move from wing to fullback IMO and with Aplon dangerous from the back and jantjes soon (relatively) to come back from injury we should be fine. Signing Ludik who wants to move from the Lions might be something too consider, though.

All in all the only area where I don't think we can compete with the best clubs in the world is at 9,10 and 15. But what critcal departments not to have world class player in..

    Injury update;

At last some good news for Province and Stormers fans; Des Fountain, Newman, Fondse, de Waal all set to make their return with Koster and Jantjes set to make their returns along the way as well. Squad should be up and running within the first few weeks of the Super series. Hopefully that helps with our problems with depth. We need better depth in the front row and outside backs and still looking for a world class halfback pairing.. the rest, though, look good, at least on paper.

Jantjes is never going to be the same player after what happened to him. He is going to have that constant fear from now on. His leg snapped so horribly. When i saw it, i went all cold and saw his career end.

The Stormers have such an awesome squad this season coming. Makes me hate them more, except for Jacque Fourie though

Steve-O, where'd you reckon I could buy a proper Sharks jersey?

Currie Cup (traditional) or the S14 jersey?

Got got my Springbok jersey from these guys, so they legit and it looks like they ship to the UK.

    Super 14 stuffs

    Currie Cup stuffs

I see the pic for the CC jerseys where you can put your name and/or number on the back is the S14 jersey, probably just for show to give you an example.

That's a pretty shitty thing to say IMO, at least give the poor guy a chance. People said the same about Gordon D'arcy when he broke his arm and had complication after complication, operation after operation but he came back as good as he was before the injury and just as physical.

He should get at least 6 games in the S14 IMO. He wasn't the world's best fullback to begin with but maybe some time out has done him good. Stormers have Aplon and Pietersen who can play fullback but I would love to see a line-up looking like this (assuming Jantjes makes some headway):

    1 Blaauw
    2 Liebenberg
    3 Harris
    4 van Zyl
    5 Bekker
    6 Louw
    7 Burger
    8 Vermeulen
    9 Duvenhage
    10 Grant
    11 Habana
    12 de Jongh
    13 Fourie
    14 Pietersen
    15 Jantjes

    16 van Niekerk
    17 Fourie
    18 Fondse
    19 Koster
    20 Januarie
    21 de Waal
    22 Aplon/Newman

although I think de Jongh makes a better 13 than 12. Maybe Des Fountain or Newman with de Jongh on the bench. Lacking quality depth at the front row and no halves that inspire.
  17. Hmmm.. I like the combo of Louw, Burger, and Vermuelen (in that order)
but I would switch Burger and Louw

Burger played better at 6, and I saw the game against the Waratahs, Louw was pretty awesome in that one

Perhaps Louw will battle Vermuelen for bok jerseys along side Ryan Kankowski?"?

I think we *might* be able to use de Waal a little more
Habana, de Jongh, Fourie, one of the greatest backlines in the competition

I think Joe Pietersen looks comfortable at fullback, and yes this is an exaggeration (for nwo)
But he almost looks like the next Percy Montgomery?? Maybe its just because he looks a little like him.

Cant wait for Janties to get back though, but would prefer to try Pietersen more at Fullback.
