Jeez guys calm down. I never said Conrad Smith is a bad player. I just feel that he's not as good as you guys make him out to be. And saying that he's better then O'Driscoll is absolutely ludicrous.

Yeah, I think we'll have to agree to disagree mate, and I'd recommend you watch Smith play more, so you can have an informed opinion ;)

OMW I really am not ableto take you seriously when you say that Smith is better then O'Driscoll. That's absolutely insane. I guess we will have to agree to disagree as there is no way I will ever think Smith is better tthen O'Driscoll.

I don't know, but then again most of his rugby observations I've noticed to be rubbish, so no point in arguing.

Yeah because calling Conrad Smith better then Brian O'Driscoll isn't rubbish. Its amazing how bias you Kiwis are. O'Driscoll is the best outside centre of the past decade and you think Conrad Smith is better then him? I tell you what, Jaques Fourie is better then Conrad Smith! Look at Fourie's try against the Crusaders, that was creating magic. Would Conrad Smith ever pull that off???

Now, judging BOD in a match that will effectively be 13 vs 15 is not really fair. So depressed, and we haven't even been embarrassed yet.

Nah, you're right. I can't offer links as they don't work on your computer, but it would be pointless anyway. You have your opinion and yours is obviously correct. And Kiwi's are obviously bias, you got us. We think we're all that. When you claim that if SA had a better coach etc, they would be "unstoppable" you speak with cold, hard facts. It was silly of me to agrue. Now, since you have made your point very clear, do you have something else to contribute?

Would Conrad Smith ever pull off what Jaques Fourie pulled of yes or no?

1. A player really shouldn't be judged purely on try scoring. Smith is a much better defender and play maker than Fourie imho. Second, yes. I think Smith can score great tries.

Now please watch these before you comment again, as it may give you a clue as to what you're talking about, a refreshing change, I'm sure.

Congrats, awesome try. Do you think that it's difficult to find a Jaques Fourie or Brian O'Driscoll vid like that? Type in Brian O'Driscoll on Youtube so that you can know what the hell you're talking about. And the main culprit in that Conrad Smith try was Morne Steyn who is a notoriously weak defender. Please type in Brian O'Driscoll on youtube if you think that Conrad Smith is better then him. And that was a good try, but that was a year ago. How often does he pull stuff like that? I'm not saying you have to do it every game, but perhaps more then once a year. Jaques Fourie scored plenty of outstanding individual tries in just the Super14 this year alone, not to mention his amazing try against the B&I Lions last year.

Here, watch these vids: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=brian+o'driscoll&aq=1

And by the way, Smith is not a better defender then Jaques Fourie! Jaques Fourie never misses a tackle!

Tackling stats for super 14 from foxsports (as I know how you like to use stats): Conrad Smith 72/87 (83%)
Jaques Fourie 72/94 (77%)
This suggests that there is not a large amount of difference in tackling ability (and suggests Fourie does indeed miss the odd tackle).

I think you are way off on your assessment of Smith - he' by far and away the best 13 in NZ, and is only getting better. In fact in his last All Black match (versus France last year) he played in my opinion his best ever game for the AB's. He is a different sort of player than either Fourie and O'Driscoll - his strengths are organising the backline, and making the right decisions both in attack and defense, while he does have the odd moment of brilliance (e.g the try versus South Africa last year). Fourie is probably stronger and faster than Smith, but is nowhere near as good as Smith at setting up his outsides (which, in my opinion, is one of the primary roles of a center). I'd say O'Driscoll, Fourie, and Smith are clearly the best three centers in the world - on form I too would probably rate Smith ahead of O'Driscoll (and we will see how they go head to head in the weekend).

Nice post, it's nice to see someone know what they're talking about.

C'mon guys let's calm down a little.

Otherwise you might find yourself taking a wee break, which would not be good for yourself nor the forum as a whole, who benefit from having another keen South African supporter that knows what they are talking about in SA Rugby.

Personally I believe that comparisons between Smith and Fourie are a bit premature, we should wait until the tri-nations has started and these two face off with one another.

Whatever. We'll see on Saturday when O'Driscoll goes up against Smith. We'll also see in the tri-nations. Let's just leave it for now and we'll see what happens on Saturday
