A Political Thread pt. 2

I mean if it was federal before Ireland gained independence, it still would have been unworkable. You either would have had massive over-representation by the non-English nations to compensate for their much lower population or you would have had England dominating the whole thing due to having more population than the rest combined. England would have had to be split up to make it work, which itself would have been controversial. If you broke up each nation to have equal size regions, you basically just have the same as we have now but with larger "constituencies".

Well, if we look at Canada and Australia as countries where they have made a federal type structures work. Even with a constitutional monarch. Of course the split between different countries powers would need to worked out properly/with representation. Not without its issues for sure. But this whole devolution from Blair’s years was a half arsed attempt at a federal structure to appease Scotland, Wales and NI. Not having a proper written constitution hasn’t helped either.

Canada and Australia were not made up of numerous countries with distinct identities prior to federation. Canada had Quebec only As I said, to make a federal UK work, you would need to break up England.

Just wondering out loud, but wonder if after her reaching 70 years on the throne the Queen is now ready to handover to Charles and Camilo. And enjoy her remaining years?

Which is hardly surprising absolutely no evidence to suggest Starmer's defence was not exactly what he said it was. It did cut through though was speaking to a chap on Saturday who had to point out he wasn't "a Tory" but was giving all sides were at it line.

BTW I'm fully expecting some stuff to be allowed, Boris' birthday bash in the cabinet office for example (its why they want to just focus on it was just a cake and not the 15 other potential offences).

TL;DR Johnson can ignore the ministerial code as much as he wants as it carries no weight whatsoever. It's little more than a gentlemen's agreement that relies on people agreeing to have some integrity, clearly something that does not apply to Johnson or many Conservatives. He can get up in Parliament and spew whatever lies he wants, free from any consequences as he can't even be found guilty of slander due to Parliamentary privilege.

I'm sure a minister will correct the error, even though they haven't yet and it's already been highlighted twice...what a load of crap.
