A Political Thread pt. 2

And peeps voting based on "feelings." All the above really played into this and swung the vote.
My mum really annoyed me. She was a stereotypical conservative who flirted with UKIP briefly. Whenever I tried to discuss the issues she would always say that she didn't know enough to discuss with me, yet she still felt she knew enough to vote.

Having said that, the majority generally don't know enough and have to use their best guess based on what politicians say. It's one of the huge flaws in democracy once you get away from local level.

Fairer voting system?

The rules around election/referenda campaigning also need overhauling. Its a lying and disinformation free for all at the moment.

It's obviously difficult to fact check everything real time but perhaps political parties should be independently reviewed every year and given a score out of ten. Its not perfect but if anything reduces lies and disinformation it's an improvement.

Especially when, being an advisory referendum rather than binding, meant that the rules didn't even apply (Electoral Commission was pretty quick to point out that it would have been voided had it been binding)

It’s funny isn’t it, referendums in theory are a great idea, we should have more of them (direct democracy and all that) but in reality they are **** and kind of make a good argument for a dictatorship.

Don't start with mums, as a hundred thousand Welsh people do, my mum votes Labour because they are for the common man, pro workers and anti foreign people stealing jobs. There are no words!!!
