A Political Thread pt. 2

Japan's new prime minister sounds a peach
Like Abe, she supports revising Japan's pacifist constitution and has visited a controversial war shrine that includes the names of those convicted of war crimes during World War II – both issues that spark anger in neighboring China and South Korea, who are also vital trade partners for Japan.

[...]

She also opposes same-sex marriage, and a growing movement to allow married couples to use separate surnames.

Not sure if this is a good thing or not. Safe to say students are happy.

Like many things in the UK, the implementation was completely botched. The fees were supposed to be different reflecting the quality of the degree and the quality of the university. Instead, all degrees cost the same regardless of quality or career prospects. If fees change quickly as they implement the link to quality then fine, but I can now just see years of increasing fees.

The real kicker is that all it's doing is pushing the debt from these loans onto future generations as most will never be fully paid back and it will governments in 30-40 years time onwards who suddenly have a deficit from thousands of written off loans.

So according to the UN humanitarian office, there have been 3200 Palestinians injured in Israeli settler attacks in 2025 alone. This is part of why I say there is no good side in this. Israel claims to oppose this but in reality does nothing.

Any peace also needs to resolve the aggressive settler push that Israel has been engaged in for years. They cannot claim to be like more than an innocent injured party when they are killing way more Palestinians than are being killed by them and are constantly engaging in land grabs and violence. This is also a form of terrorism...

I saw a map on TV a few weeks ago and the commentator said that the settlements were all strategically scattered throughout the West Bank in order to make a two state solution untenable. It's nigh on impossible for that to happen without Netanyahu and his administration being complicit in the coordination of it all.

Have said many times that the term 'settlers' is far too generous and misleading given the violence and barbarism involved even if they believe it is God's will. It is terrorism plain and simple. Settlers gives the impression that they are civilians moving in search of a better and peaceful life.

I've been saying for months, don't listen to any Israelis that call the West Bank Judea and Samaria. Ok guys, we know it was called that 3000 years ago but no one outside of Israel calls it that now.

Jordan annexed the West Bank after the war in 48 and Egypt annexed Gaza during the same time. No doubt since 67, Israel has been much more expansionist and have endorsed, tacitly or otherwise, settler actions in the West Bank for many years now. It's clearly a huge roadblock to peace and something Israel needs to have an internal reckoning about as it's not sustainable (unless you support mass ethnic cleansing)

I do have hope that that reckoning/discussion will take place under new leadership but Palestinians need to have their own reckoning and recognising jihad is a pretty bad idea (to be fair Islam in general needs to sort this out.)

Its starting, Trump style immigration reform is on its way to europe, aggressive, abrasive and a helpful PR stunt for those in power.

Its absolutely win win for Labour, there isnt the appetite from the brits to protest it as harshly as the Americans are, it'll be small pockets of Muslims who will protest it, who will then be vilified as being violent and anti British.

This is a fascinating story. George has gone full Trump and refused to acknowledge the vote, but hasn't refused the allegations he celebrated murder, and hated the union only to run to control and change it...

This is why we cant have nice things, regardless of what side of the isle you are, you get into politics and you lose sight and become hungry for more regardless of how you do it

One in, one out, back in, according to the beeb. It's kind of funny but don't think Starmer will see it that way.

Migration Watch worked out it would take nearly 300 years to deport all of the arrivals since Labour have been in power under this scheme.
Looks like it’s a roaring success already……

So, while proclaiming peace, Israel passes bills to effectively take over the whole of the West Bank.

Extremely tone deaf

One thing reform get right but I don't think anyone wants to admit is the only thing that will stop the boats it's making Britain completely undesirable as a destination. That involves completely ignoring obligations we signed up to regarding refugees and potential cruelty.

Personally I can't see anything else that will stop it.

That will help but will only go so far. A common thing you hear from anti immigration people is:

"Why do they need to come here? They go through so many countries to get here and you know why they don't stop at those countries? Because they came to the UK to abuse our benefit system etc etc"

What this point always fails to acknowledge is that the reason why is due to the language. We won the language war so of course immigrants want to come here as a lot of them will speak broken English.

What we really need to do, alongside your excellent idea of making this country a **** hole and therefore less desirable is get everyone to stop speaking English and, I dunno, Welsh instead. That'll stop the fuckers coming over.

Cymru am byth.
