Yeah, she kinda reminds me a bit of Rosamind Pike who isn’t in Gal Gadots or Margot Robbie’s league but I wouldn’t crawl over her to get to you.

I liked it. Admittedly in a guilty pleasures kinda way but it seems we can’t even agree on movies. At least you like Wu-Tang, though, so you’re not all bad.

Itnwas just so disney, Care bears meets Avatar with the annoying chick from Indiana Jones trying to ruin the movie (i know its not the same woman, she just did a great impression).

I think im in the camp that no good movies have been made in over a decade, the odd stand out, but in reality it just seems all rehashed slop. Same with music...

But then i remember my father saying the same to me 30 years ago, maybe ive just reached The Age, whereby i recognise the slop being rehashed.

I loved Everything Everywhere All At Once. Brilliant film but is probably a bit of a marmite movie so not everyone’s cup of tea. I loved Ex Machina as well.

Edit - Ex Machina is 2014 so not in last 10 years. It doesn’t feel that old. Must be me that’s getting old.

Ok just been through top 10 movies of each of the last 10 years...

Joker was ok
Oppenheimer was ok to kill the time
Bo rap i enjoyed
Quiet place was ok
Manchester by the sea i liked
Avengers endgame 1 was decent, but i had been forced into watching every blwdi awful movie to that point, so it might have just been releif knowing it was over. Part 2 was trash. Or was the good one infinity war and endgame was trash, i cant remember.

F1 i havnt seen yet.

Jesus, if all of those movies were released in the same year, it would be considered an average 90s year lol

Maybe you’re just looking at mainstream blockbusters but there’s been plenty of good films.

Maybe you’re just looking at mainstream blockbusters but there’s been plenty of good films.

I like the director Craig Zahler and 3 of his films Bone Tomahawk, Brawl in Cell Block 99 and Mel Gibsons best movie ever, Dragged Across Concrete. Little gem that is. There’s loads of others.

He said Ex Machina was okay which immediately makes anyone's opinion irrelevant. Seriously there are films that should provoke more than a "meh" reaction. Its up there with myin-laws walking out of Cloud Atlas saying it was "boring".

As someone who is constantly watching movies and at the cinema yeah if you just go by Box Office you come up with a crummy list. Superman is the only movie in the top 10 last year that's actually very good. But crikey its a year Sinners, The Ballard of Wallace Island and Hamnet.

Sure we rarely a get a 1993 but thats really an outlier.

Like i said, ive been out of the scene for a while, maybe ive missed some pearlers, but in general ive kind of lost interest in movies too over the years...

Maybe its a combination of seeing behind the curtain, and realising what actors, directors and most people involced in hollywood are like, holier than tho degenerates, maybe its constant political messaging, maybe its the fact movies arent being made for me, and that the media landscape has changed, i kjow catch the odd movie at night with my feet up when the kids are in bed expecting trash and falling asleep during the trash lol...

I now think about rye cinema as torture, Minecraft, Frozen 2, Inside out etc...

I think its also partly that Hollywood is losing its domination slightly, and Asian stories and content is doing very well, so they focus more on making money than being creative, likeni said the last few gilms i really enjoyed were Manchester by the sea, and the lighthouse, both i really enjoyed.

Its like him now saying Clod Atlas is boring. The filsm cross 5-6 parallement stories in diffrent time frames genres. You might dislike the film, you might find it hard to follow but boring? Thats not engaging with the film at all.

Yeah that’s totally fair. I have no problem with anyone not liking any particular peace of art but when you have a film that is, at the very least, thought provoking, you can at least acknowledge that and then say it wasn’t your cup of tea.

Thats not fair at all, thought provoking films can absolutely fail in their delivery and be boring, Ad Astra and Annhialation come to mind. I didnt hate either, but didnt get hooked in because of pacing and writing.

Someones reaction to a film cannot be 'wrong' just because another person loves the film.

Ex Machina was ok, it was a decent way to spend a bit of time, i wouldnt re watch it, and i wouldnt put it on a list of top movies, im absolutely allowed to watch it and forget about it straight away.

Ive actually already watched Brawll in cell block 99... at the risk of offending you, Vince Vaughn ruined the movie for me!

From that first shoot out scene, Vaughn took me out of it. Ok movie, but Vaughn playing not Vaughn was so weird...

1. I watched a lot of stuff during COVID, i actually rewatched the Prestige a few months ago and enjoyed it far more than years ago.

Just watched Project Hail Mary - excellent film, not sure I could have asked for much more, but that may change when I re-read.

Might even have inspired Ali to read her 2nd ever sci-fi book!

Re the Dune Books....i rememeber getting to the end of Dune and thinking it was generic sci-fi, predicable in a lot of ways....and then i realised it was probably the source of what have become standdard sci-fi troups...so would have been truely revelutionsary when first released.....just sufferend from me reading/watching +40 years of newer sci fi before it
