Canes team named, quite a few changes! Beaudy at fullback is exciting, and it's good to see Lousi getting his starting debut.
Gonna cause a bit of a reshuffle in my fantasy team with Jordie on the bench though...

imo Julian lucky to keep his wing ahead of Jane. May isn't a starter. Shields isn't an 8. He's best at 6.

Yeah Julian has been lazy for quite a number of matches already, he needs to find his mojo otherwise he won't make the AB squad for the Lions tour. Despite the appearances, there are very few good left wing specialists in New Zealand (Nehe, Jane, Dagg and Ben Smith are all right footers). To be honest, I'd choose James Lowe instead of Savea based on his current form for the 11 jersey. He's been making a positive impact during nearly all the matches he's played

Im a huge Lowe fan.. He's got a kick just as big as daggs, backs up as well as sets up, always looking to make play and just hungrier imo than Julian.
However I don't think he'll get in cos he's signed overseas. He should've been an AB a couple seasons ago but we're so blessed with back 3 depth.

Going to this one also :D
Hopefully the boys put on a show!

Yep off to this one too - been to all the matches except that Rebels one where I was busy.

Hoping for an attacking high scoring game. Will be interesting to see BB at 15 again. I remember when Tusi Pisi was putting in some good performances at 10 a few years ago and we had BB at the back, worked relatively well.

Cheetahs shouldn't give us too many problems you'd hope.

Wouldn't be surprised if the AB coaches have asked for BBC to have a go at fullback given all the injuries etc.

Very well could be. Tad annoying how much influence international teams can have on respective clubs. Surely must irk the coaches of said clubs.

That being said the ABs do know what BB's like at 15. He's played there a bit off the bench for the ABs.

I kinda doubt that tbh. It's time for Jordie to have a break and Otere deserves a start, so moving Beaudy to FB was a natural move and they probs always planned to do it against the Cheetahs. I doubt the coaches would make selections based on what the ABs coaches want, the comp is too competitive and important to them, I think they just go with what's best for the team.

I hope Jordie goes back to his family farm in Taranaki so that his father can teach him a few things on tackles

Mate Jordie's a great tackler, if anything it's Beauden who needs the tips...
Beauden was a shy tackler at 15 when he was a Canes debutant. He then worked on his technique and is now much more consistent.

Jordie is a great tackler at 12, but 15 demands a whole other skillset, the ability to read actions, anticipate two or three phases in advance and then commit 100% in your tackle. As exciting and skillful a prospect Jordie can be, he lacks exactly this. Maybe he can read the game, but in the event of a linebreak, he will hesitate and not fully commit on an attacking threat. If he does his tackle too late, this leaves a lot of room for an offload. If he doesn't know who he should defend, he'll miss his tackle.
He's got a lot to learn in terms of decision making (Ben Smith or his bro can help him about that) and technique wise (his father can teach him how not to let people slip through, he used to be a sound tackler in the blindside)

Maybe you're right in terms of the decision making / positioning thing, which is understandable given his lack of experience, but in terms of pure tackling I actually think he's a very good tackler. He seems to have a decent technique, but most importantly he goes hard and from what I've seen doesn't seem afraid to fully commit himself to tackles.
As a matter of fact I've seen him put in some bloody hard hits, especially at age grade level, he can definitely throw his weight around in defense.

Yup on second thought, you may be right too. I was worried to see him slip on a lot of occasions but that's because he didn't anticipate well enough. Also, that tackle on Fekitoa was pretty dangerous for himself. Sure, he was scrambling back and was tackling at full speed, but that looked like inconsistent technique that could put other players or himself in danger

yeah u gotta be able to anticipate, follow the ball carrier but u gotta gotta be careful when you commit.
much easier to tackle up in the line where there's less room for the ball carrier to step

At least from a statistical point of view, his tackling has been woeful.

Are the Cheetahs even going to try tonight? These errors are Sunday social league errors. That first try is the softest of the season.

Abysmal rugby, go home if you're going to play like that Cheetahs.
