Buzzing for Dan!

Still gutted for JL, though - think he's been in the better form and covers two positions which is handy considering injuries/SA already having played three high intensity tests/covid protocols meaning drafting in extras for training is harder

Pleased for Wilco Louw too. A good reward for an excellent season.

But … vamos Argentina!

When does Nico Janse Van Rensburg get a go? They need to cap him so France can't pinch him!

I'm actually not as fussed starting with a 3rd string front row. Still world class. Still have our 2nd choose FR on the bench and with Etzebeth and De Jager in behind should do us proud.

Locks look good. Think Du Preez and Orie both to come on into the locks because if we want to save someone it should be our starting locks. Not a huge Orie fan. Would have preferred Shickerling, Jenkins or Nortje myself but with Mostert and Snyman set to travel Ories's inclusion is a bit of a moot point.

We are now seeing how much we need PSDT and Vermeulen. Kolisi TBF has a great series. Still no Marcel Coetzee? I would have thought him to be a shoe in if fit. If nothing else to reward a returning player all else being equal.

Centers and the wings are fine if the idea is to rest the encumbants. Just starting to look very SA Aey. Like the actual SA A. The one that lost to the Bulls... Speaking of which, I would prefer Hendricks on the wing with Fassi at the back. Which brings me to..

I hate Willemse at 15. I see him as a 10 /12. I hate him at the back just as I hate it at the Stormers. Gelant and Fassi are there in behind Le Roux.

Quite apart from that I don't like the halves. Elton less so than Reinach. If Pollard is unavailable then for me go Goosen or Morne Steyn if you aren't going to show faith in Willemse. Honestly, that poor guy has been messed about so much he should go to Europe, dominate and come back when other coaches have enabled him to shine. All he needs is time and confidence.

So many options but Smith gets it...

I don't know the kid but I would bet I would like him more than Orie. At least for test rugby. My preference beyond Etzebeth/De Jager/Snyman/Mostert would be Jenkins or Nortjie and Shickerling if we needed line out specialists.

Gelant only recently back from injury. We'll see how it goes but prior to injury he was the form player for an otherwise underwhelming Stormers IMO. Bulls have been helped by the form of some players that are unlucky not to be included.

Probably as always a good thing us fans aren't involved and we are not privy to all of the intricacies like for instance the contractual disputes between Hendricks and SARU but if I could name a 33 man Bok squad to tour;

Hk
Mbonambi, Marx, Dweba
FR
Kitshoff, Nyakane, Malherbe, Nche, Koch
Lk
Etzebeth, De Jager, Snyman (apparently joining), Mostert
LF
Kolisi, Vermeulen, Du Toit (Jenkins moving Mostert into LF if unavailable), Coetzee, Van Staaden, Du Preez

SH
De Klerk, Jantjies, Reinach
FH
Pollard, Willemse, Goosen
Ce
Am, De Allende, Kriel, Hendricks
OB
Mapimpi, Kolbe, Le Roux, Gelant, Fassi

So as far as i understand and from what i have read after reading the squad selections, the message going around is that Jean Luc du Preez is out with what might be a long term injury. Otherwise he would have been an option considering our Lock problems

Would make sense why he's still in RSA and not back in Manchester getting ready for pre-season

TBF, I can name a fair few South Africans with caps for France. But mostly its spare parts so no harm done and I don't begrudge players playing for other nations if they get the chance and/or feel an affinity for their adopted nations.

Back to the match thread, Argentina not looking to pull any punches it seems. That's a handy line-up and they must be targeting this match. SA with a very SA 'A' looking side need to step up. There is quality on the bench which I hope might help us get the cart over the line but if Argentina are ahead and have their tails up that is much easier said than done.

Argentina's 6,7 and 8 are frightening, to say the least. They will not stand an inch back against any side in the world.
Wish Evan Roos started playing 2 years earlier, he is the type to take them on

Yeah, those are some formidable ball carriers. The likes of Vermeulen, PSDT, Mostert and Coetzee will be missed here. Marx at least on the bench and we will have to hope the others step up and Kolisi continues his rich vein of form. I am almost wanting to say Argentina are favorites considering the amount of rotation we made? And its not just the pack where I don't expect us dominate, its particularly the 9 / 10 / 15 combo I am not liking most.

EDIT, YES i SEE LOCAL BOOKIES ALSO HAVE AN aRG WIN AS THEIR VALUE BET.

Jean Luc has literally just got married so I think it might be more to do with that than with an injury.

It is interesting with all the experience out that Nienaber didn't select Coetzee for the championship 42 man squad.

Whilst I don't think Wiese had a great series, considering the opposition I'm pretty happy with his stats, his defensive stats are impressive. But damn does he like to do stupid stupid, which I do feel he will eventually work out, his Tigers team mate Ellis Genge has finally seemed to fix his issues now later on in this half of the season question will be can he work it out before it costs him.
Jasper didn't show anything in attack but to give lions credit it was a pretty solid Lions defence, these will have to be the games where he needs to show he can bring that side of things to International rugby. Pumas are not weak but they also like to play more open rugby.

That being said that is a very good Argentine pack. Outside the props who I know nothing about.

I'm guessing he got married because his season was done - can't imagine him turning down a call up for it, and it definitely seemed spur of the moment (RdP wasn't there, for example)

I know the WR rankings get a lot of stick especially if you don't allow for context but Argentina could move up to 5th with a draw, 4th with a win and possibly 3rd with a winning margin of 15+

This is without taking possible Aus movement into account.
