A History Thread

I'm surprised a Jaguar managed to take off from it considering it's only just over 12 miles long.
The longest runway in UK is at Heathrow, 2.5 miles or so.

I believe he had to take his run up under a bridge, certainly looks like it in the video.

Yes, it was a joke on the **** poor performance of the Jaguar needing a 12 mile runway having watched them limp into the air whilst F-16s are climbing straight up using a quarter of the same runway.

Not arguing with you, didn't see the joke anyway

For info.

The Jaguar typically needed 580 m (1,900 ft) with typical tactical load.

The F16 needs 1000m minimum with any bomb load.

The two have completely different roles, the Jaguar is an attack aircraft more akin to the A10 whereas the F16 was designed as a fighter/multi role aircraft.

The last Jaguar built was in 1981 whereas F16s are still being built today with constant aero dynamic improvements and vastly more powerful engines so really they're chalk and cheese.

I was in The RAF for 24 years as an avionic technician. I know how **** a Jaguar was.
