Yes

What's the difference? They have the same effect in either place so give the same message. It might be the defacto middle east base. But it's not like they are being parked in Kuwait.
Lots of Russians in Cyprus....All I'd seen was them saying British forces were fair game if they defended Israel.

Internet was already available in Iran - just through normal means, not via Elon
Wonder what the popularity of this is amongst Israel's. The Gaza war is losing appeal and Netenyahu in general doesn't have the support of the majority of citizens I don't believe but I think generally attacking Iran has so maybe this is a populist type ploy to garner favour AND keep him out of jail (for a bit longer at least)
Why would the Iranian people rise up just because they had internet access?
Iranians are always revolting
Bit harsh
Aside from Cyprus being ~400 km beyond Israel from Iran rather than en route? What's the difference? They have the same effect in either place so give the same message.
I wouldn't have thought Iran would be all that determined to drag other countries into potential conflict that they already are losing.I wouldn't have thought many countries in the Middle East proper would be keen on painting another target on their back by hosting Western jets and troops.
Quite.I wouldn't have thought Iran would be all that determined to drag other countries into potential conflict that they already are losing.
Quite.
My comment was about the RAF base being in Cyprus as opposed to ... God knows where else. Jordan is probably the most stable (now and historically) but that's largely because they've chosen to remain neutral. Sticking a load of jets near Petra probably wouldn't be a popular decision in the region. Cyprus is about the only viable option it seems.
Not a bad shout but it would probably take (even before all of this) a century to calm the hatred and bitterness enough on both sides to make it workable.Taking about Cyprus, I have always thought it is a model Israel and Palestine could have followed with the right diplomacy. Northern Cyprus is administered by Turkey and has a UN buffer zone between it and the south. It may lack universal recognition but is a good example of how a status quo can be maintained peacefully. People can cross the border in either direction easily and without harassment. You can literally walk through the crossing points with a quick passport check at both ends.

To state the bleeding obvious I'm starting to think Israel has absolutely ****** itself by being so aggressive. It's always been the case but the more parents they kill, the more individual enemies they create and radicalise - and right now there's 55,000+ dead in three countries
Even with regime change they'll be dealing with lone wolves and more determined and motivated paramilitaries forever. Iran might fall but Hamas, the Houthis and who only knows what organisation(s) form out of the ashes will find funding and arm themselves somehow. It's going to be very very grim imo.Yeah I think Israel have gone so ball deep that the only option now is regime change in Iran otherwise it's going to be a shitshow for decades. Iran look pretty isolated with no countries coming out and saying they will support them - including it's supposed buddy Russia. Turkey also have good relations with Iran and are staying quiet so far.
