Was it a code word for caring?Last year a colleague got called sexist by a female manager after saying he didn't like his wife walking home alone at night.

The difference in pay bands between them was pretty high as well. Was it a code word for caring?
Its just such a baffling scenario. Like did she mishear? Is she not aware violence is disportionate towards women? It stinks of she doesn't like your collegue, thought she had a gotcha and ended up looking stupid. The difference in pay bands between them was pretty high as well.
I'm sure my colleague won't be unscrewing a jar for her any time soon.
There is some level of it being amplified on social media. We've got a local council election tomorrow (can't remember if it's because one of the reform lot has resigned in scandal or if this is separate to the last lot of voting or whatever) but the local facebook groups are swamped with it - local Labour candidate going on about how he wants to get the lines repainted on the roads by the industrial estate on the outskirts of the village, and get the canal towpaths re-gravelled as they look like the Somme and then every reply underneath is going on about immigration and smallboats
The reform candidate is only 22 and isn't from/doesn't live in the area (will be commuting from Oxford) - mental
Oh absolutely, this kid reform are wheeling out has done no advertising or campaigning but will win a landslide despite the Labour and even (shudder) Tory candidates actually being local residents and running on a platform to do some actual, and attainable, good for the areaBut people don't actually understand what you local councilor can do and its usually planning not much else.
Oh it gets stupidly complicated between borough and county council who is responsible for what. Its why unitary councils are being put in place.Road markings and towe paths might not even be the local council to sort out.
My council City Council cover 24hr moorings but they get paid by someone else to do.
The roads etc are covered by county council who manage them for Highways England. Again I think county get money to do this from Highways. So any thing road related goes to County/Highways unless City own the land.
Nice and simple.
That's getting messy down here. The county is almost bankrupt, two borough councils have a surplus, the other three have major deficits. Current proposals for the mergers will see everyone in deficit and forecasts are S114 orders for everyone, but it's being forced through regardlessOh it gets stupidly complicated between borough and county council who is responsible for what. From what I gather some of the companies that built the new housing estates here were meant to be contributing to the upkeep/overhaul of the towpaths as part of them being allowed to build as much as they have - so I imagine part of it is just putting the squeeze on them rather than trying to get bloody from the stone that is the Reform led councilRoad markings and towe paths might not even be the local council to sort out.

I think the government forces it through then bails the councils out (as it should). That's getting messy down here. Call me cynical, but I'll believe it when I see itI think the government forces it through then bails the councils out (as it should).
You mean private companies are responsible for the upkeep of public resources and they don't do it properly or are held to account. Well consider me shocked. Never heard of that happening in any other industry. I thought privatisation of public services was a roaring success. From what I gather some of the companies that built the new housing estates here were meant to be contributing to the upkeep/overhaul of the towpaths as part of them being allowed to build as much as they have - so I imagine part of it is just putting the squeeze on them rather than trying to get bloody from the stone that is the Reform led council
Though probably actually easier to get blood from a stone, as I imagine these housing companies aren't arsed whatsoever - they've built and sold what they came here to do, they don't care about the area after that
Well someone has to bail out the councils...its not like a business that can just cease trading.Call me cynical, but I'll believe it when I see it
Quite, but it forces the poorly run councils into the ones that are managing and will only result in yet more services being either slashed even closer to the bone, or abolished entirely because they're all 'part of one authority.' It's very on brand for a Westminster decree.Well someone has to bail out the councils...its not like a business that can just cease trading.
