A Political Thread pt. 2

Yeah there's a huge reason why I haven't read The Shepherd's Crown yet.
Yup.
There will always be a new book by Pratchett, waiting for me to read it.

His is the only celebrity death that ever actually hit me (helps that I met him a couple of times, I guess) - it felt like I actually knew the man.

Sorry for offtop, but Pratchett is one of my favourite writers, really LOVE him, he was amazing.. always read Rincewind cycle when I'm in a bad mood :D even have one book in English (though haven't read him in original yet, only in Russian translation)

Wow..how was it?

Awesome.
Sat next to him at a charity dinner thing fairly shortly after Nation was released.
Said he'd always wanted to revisit the themes of Small Gods, but less preachy, and less restricted by Discworld expectations.
I'd commenter that, being set in the PIs it should have been rugby the sailors taught the locals - he agreed it might have been better, but felt there was more room for humour with cricket, and that he loved his cricket, and didn't get the chance to include it often enough.

Very charming, very dry sense of humour, verging on the dark, seemed like a shy person who slightly over-compensates when putting on his celebrity face - equally though, that might have been the Alzheimer's, which I didn't know about at the time

Amazing!!! I'm so jealous..he visited Moscow once (?..I think..in 2007),for an exposition, but I was at school that time and couldn't visit it to meet him :( saw after a couple of photos of other Russian fans with him..well,at least can still read his books and enjoy them..

I used to love how Pratchett would highlight the absurdities of the way people thought, especially in large groups.

These people are sick...

Millionaires asking to pay more tax? Just looked out the window for flying pigs.
Its not a huge surprise to find 30 people with a social conscience and it won't make a difference anyway.

Still nice to see the actual champagne socialists come out of the woodwork.

Just to clarify by difference I mean to the Tory tax policy not the actual money it could bring in and what you could do with it.

Looks like the Tories are being instructed to fake outrage and encourage pile ones, using Amess' death as justification

Seen multiple MPs feigning outrage over really tame tweets

Its about about pushing through the online protection bill and they've used this coupled by the weird outrage of Rayner's comments to really push it through.

Of course the online protection bill is ill thought out and conceived like every other tech bill.

What is really worrying is from all accounts Amess' death had very little to do with online hate. I've read the attacker had a small online presence and who he attacked was just pot luck rather than targeted for ideological reasons. We should be talking about radicalisation...

Sunak adds: "I want taxes to be going down not up. I want this to be a society that rewards energy, ingenuity and inventiveness. A society that rewards work."

100% the case… /s

Its a weird budget one that a Labour government would be pillared for. Increases in spending, reduction in taxes. Some of tax reduction seam to go against Green targets (on fuel and air travel). Inflation figures are potentially frightening though though.

Also why are we incentiving domestic flights? I've taken one flight to Scotland in my life and that was for a funeral when I lived in Dorset and was flying from Bournemouth. Who actually needs these things?
