A Political Thread pt. 2

Yeah he's calling them out without actually calling them out.
More of a critique of the direction of IR internationally than a specific jibe at the Tories iykwim. I'm inclined to agree with him that it's an international trend rather than one neccesairly produced domestically

I think its definitely one we've embraced the most in recent years with Brexit having occured months before Trumps election and we were hardly team players before that. This said China and Russia are even longer in that group.

That quote from Raab is utter bullshit.

It's not maximum protection, it's punishing after the abuse has happened. If the government really wanted to give maximum protection they would invest in child services so that they can do their job properly and child support, so that they can do their job properly and stop the abuse before it begin. Not sure these understand what protection really means. Once again we have a government who is only happy to treat the effects and not try to solve the causes.

Its just frustrating people go a long with it and its nothing new. Its been proven time and time again tougher sentences have little to no impact on crime. Prevention, Enforcement and Justice (the actual process of courts) are what works. Currently you have an issue where problematic people aren't properly flagged, the police aren't given the proper resources to investigate and the criminal justice system has such a large problem in backlog that unless your held in custody you'll walk free for years before being tried, if it doesn't get dropped before then. Its okay though because they'll stop because if they get caught (and we know many don't) and you eventually get tried they'll curtail your freedom for slightly longer.

Criminals don't commit crimes thinking they'd get caught so don't consider the consequences of being caught.

Adding stories like this to stories of ambulances being blocked in / vandalised for having the temerity to block someone's driveway - I think we may need a new law along the lines of "intent to manslaughter"

The chances of them loosing Old Bexley and Sidcup & North Shropshire are small (although bookies have just slashed odds to 2/1 on North Shropshire as a LD gain). But sounding like sizable dents in their majorities can be made.

Already seeing ridiculous people on the left claiming Starmer must resign if they don't win Old Bexley which they don't have a reasonable chance of doing.

More of this please in the coming years.

Seriously, the level of lying and hypocrisy from the government is staggering. There is no integrity at all in no 10. How many cases has this been now of them not following their own rules and then refusing to justify it? The usual gaslighting from Johnson of not answering a question and then when pressed about why he won't answer, claims he has.

Well we've already gone from "It didn't happen" to "It did happen, but it was within the rules".

Found this interesting.

Feels like the U.K is potentially heading this way, though not for exactly the same reasons as Japan. However, we have a FPTP system with a fractured opposition that doesn't give people a credible alternative. On top I found it interesting that despite many pacts not to field candidates, it didn't actually have much of an impact. I feel this could be similar to the U.K. You can't assume that if the Lib Dems don't field a candidate that all those voters will go to labour for example.
