A Political Thread pt. 2

Anyway. Has anyone heard the latest about the Epstein files being released? No me either but in many ways Epstein reminds me a lot of Tommy Cooper and think they were both similar
i also expected more to come out from the JFK files, such a big deal about declassifying them....then nothing

Isn't it a system issue. My understanding is Trump lucked out by getting to appoint two judges who were likely to rule on his side. Given him a more likely majority. I don't think picking fights with judges is that good a move for him

Still other president tend to pick those who are likely to rule in there favour. The system is fooked.
A system issue and a cultural issue. Trump massively lucked out, he actually got to appoint 3 justices. 1/3 of the supreme court has been nominated by him. That was on top of it already being a right leaning court before he did that, and Republicans in Congress being completely unwilling to hold him to account. Funny enough, the most corrupt and worst culprits were nominated by Bush Snr and Bush Jnr. Republicans have been exceptionally lucky to have had the chance to nominate justices in their presidencies, whilst the one liberal judge that could have been replaced with another decided to cling on until she died, allowing Trump to fill her seat rather than Obama.

He can pick fight with justices and judges all he wants, they are never going to do anything about it.

And two of those are the sex pest Kavanagh and the fuckwit christian bigot Coney Barrett. Who now owe him their futures.

At least Kavanagh and Barrett haven't always sided with the right, it's the corrupt Thomas and Alito that have been bought and paid for by the right.

Thomas has always prided himself on being a constitutionalist I wonder what he'll do now.

With every new story Thomas reminds me more and more of Clay Davis from The Wire. Corrupt to his soul.

in fairness there are threads for joke, memes etc
Kiwiwomble, always butting in. What took you so long...it must have been a whole 5 seconds.

There are many on this forum who post political memes, cartoons, social media links and YouTube videos here. Kudos to them/us. 👍

You know the history of the Supreme Court very well going back to 1989 (George Bush, Sr.) at least. Did you ever live in the USA or do you just follow American politics closely?

I've heard this criticism of Ginsberg and it's disgusting... she passed away ffs!!!

Yeah I hate them too, used to be a group of shits I'd see at Canary Wharf at least once a week after work bumping through the barriers that were on the quiet side.

Plays to the crowd. But can't stand fare dodgers either. Especially the ones who wait sneakily behind paying ones and sneak through after. TFL staff refuse to do anything about it. Well might as well be a free for all then.

Far dodging is matter for local councillor level politics thought not national.

Interesting I did see something though that public transit in Berlin went to a complete honour system. They worked out enforcement (barriers, personnel etc.) cost them more than the amount they lost through those dodging the fare. How true that is is another matter it was given anecdotally buy just a guy explaining why they had the honour system.

It's not an honor system in the traditional sense. You have to buy a ticket, validate it on the bus or U bahn etc.. however there are no barriers, there are though very aggressive under cover staff. They have the power to deliver a fine on the spot, or refer you to criminal proceedings.

You have to have a ticket, it's just the old style no turnstiles that they introduced to main UK in recent years.

There is a big push to stop calling fare dodgers Schwarzfahren 'black riders' and the stigma is bad, I think that term has been officially binned.

Germans mock the BVG for being old and refusing to update to modern day in all aspects, addressing fare dodging being one of them

Barriers see a significant reduction in fare dodging. Looking at some forums the uptick in fares where they are installed makes a massive difference and barriers pay for themselves pretty quickly.

Most Germans I know are more likely to follow rules.

It ****** me off the ones who think they can get away with it. This is just one small examples in our society amongst others. I’ve said it before that they are the Rollo Tomassis who think they will get away with it. And this has now gone all the way up to top level in politics.

I was on the tram in Hiroshima last year and 3 mainland elderly Chinese men got on and didn’t beep card to pay and got off. Wish my Mandarin was good enough to give them a piece of my mind. That’s also based on a honour system as the driver is too busy operating and didn’t see a ticket inspector.
