A Political Thread pt. 2

I don't. And even if I researched it and found answers to prove or disprove what I said I still wouldn't really know unless I was on the ground in this specific conflict.

What?!?!? Are you saying all those well informed people waving palestinian flags every weekend, and at Glasto are not as much of an authority as i thought they were?!

On a side note if this war had reliable and accurate reporting it would help. Neither side could lie straight in bed. I'd trust a warranty from Del Boy more.

At least in the good old days you knew if Kate Adie rocked up it was going to kick off, but at least you got an accurate picture on the ground.

Joking aside, the main reason I assume that they do those things a lot is because it's not really been disputed from what I've seen. I'm sure they don't always do it and you can argue about how effective it is but it's better than doing nothing (which is what any other country in the region would do if they were in Israel's shoes)

Sod that! She was known at the bullet magnet in Bosnia!

It's true though. Israel blocking off all outside press has a sinister feel to it.

Or had press reports from the ground on this specific conflict?
That would be helpful but wouldn't be truly definitive, especially given the nature of this war being quite unique in more than one way (tiny, densely populated area, history, Hamas' tactics - not just human shields but that in conjunction with their strategy of using those deaths as propaganda to flood the west and putting international pressure on Isreal.) One can obviously say that's not their strategy but I can't see why else they act like they do.

I do agree, though. Not only do I think it was and is a mistake not to let journalists in it also does have a bad feel to it.

But I also don't think they weren't let in purely because they wanted to do some dodgy **** (though accept that could've been a factor)

I think their main worries were probably the sheer amount of journalist deaths there would've been and the subsequent outrage (I don't think they would've cared about the journalists themselves so much) and also the worry that some sections of the media would further Hamas strategic aims had they just opened the gates to all journalists.

I dont think Isreal care about journalist deaths tbh, I think they care more about the propaganda Hamas could pump out through these 'indepenadant' journalists, before the death.

Just look at the Italian guy, who after leaving Gaza retracted everything he published and told the story. Can't remember his name now

WTF has happened in here since I checked in at lunchtime?

Over It Ugh GIF

Yeah I agree which is why I said they wouldn’t care about the deaths of journalists as such but more how those deaths would be used or perceived. It’s funny though, considering they’re one of the most evil countries on the planet it’s weird that they didn’t show all of the October 7th footage non stop on social media every day. Whatever you think about them, and there’s a lot to criticise Isreal for, at least, for the most part, they care about their own citizens.

Not heard of this Italian guy.
