That would be helpful but wouldn't be truly definitive, especially given the nature of this war being quite unique in more than one way (tiny, densely populated area, history, Hamas' tactics - not just human shields but that in conjunction with their strategy of using those deaths as propaganda to flood the west and putting international pressure on Isreal.) One can obviously say that's not their strategy but I can't see why else they act like they do.
I do agree, though. Not only do I think it was and is a mistake not to let journalists in it also does have a bad feel to it.
But I also don't think they weren't let in purely because they wanted to do some dodgy **** (though accept that could've been a factor)
I think their main worries were probably the sheer amount of journalist deaths there would've been and the subsequent outrage (I don't think they would've cared about the journalists themselves so much) and also the worry that some sections of the media would further Hamas strategic aims had they just opened the gates to all journalists.
